A public school teacher who spends his/her own money to purchase supplies, materials, texts, and learning aids for the classroom may deduct the money spent on those items on their itemized federal tax return.

Parents who educate their children at home with materials purchased using their own money may not deduct the cost of those materials on the family tax return. These parents are no less teachers than those working in a local school, but current tax laws treat them as if they are.

Lately, Democratic presidential contender John Kerry has been making laughable attempts to appeal to gun owners, despite his very clear record in favor of gun control.

This would probably be funnier if it weren't for the fact that Bush, too, has a very clear record of undermining the Second Amendment. Most supporters of gun rights seem to be oblivious to this, or at best only dimly aware. Pointing out the failure by Bush to protect the right to bear arms nearly always brings out the question "So you think Kerry would be better?" Obviously only those who agree with Sarah Brady think Kerry would be better on guns, but it would take some considerable effort for Kerry to do worse, as Bush has attacked gun rights in his domestic agenda, by Administration actions in the courts, and in his foreign policy.

The issue of whether someone should vote for the "lesser of two evils" this November has become very contentious in recent months with friends and relatives clashing to the point of creating hard feelings.

Sadly, most Americans don't really recognize that they are being deliberately herded into this direction to keep them in line and "faithful" to either the Democrat or Republican parties. Sun-Tzu is considered one of the greatest military tacticians of all time. I have learned much from studying his strategies as well as Francis Marion aka The Swamp Fox. The herding technique is one of the most effective methods of manipulating those to be conquered into the right direction. I use a bull and cape metaphor on my web site to illustrate this, but basically, this is how it works...

The Massachusetts court that ruled gays should be allowed to marry vaulted the emotionally charged issue, which some conservatives already call a bigger crusade than abortion, to the forefront of the 2004 election.

"It's nuclear is what it is - it's nuclear," said the Rev. Lou Sheldon of the Washington-based Traditional Values Coalition, which is gearing up a huge campaign to stop gay marriage.

More than one sage has expressed an opinion that Hillary is only lying in wait, not unlike a crocodile lurking at a waterhole, before announcing an unexpected bid for the presidency. I disagree.

In my humble opinion, there are a number of reasons why the Lizard Queen will choose to sit on the sidelines in 2004.

California weighs in, and presidential candidates are challenged to comment.

A host of computer scientists and activists have joined forces to form the National Committee for Voting Integrity (NCVI) and to throw down a gauntlet to presidential candidates, inviting them to take a stance on electronic voting.

The Michigan Democratic Party's plan to allow Internet voting in its presidential caucus won approval Saturday from national Democrats.

For the first time, the Michigan party will allow those participating in the Feb. 7 caucus to have the option of selecting their favorite presidential candidate over the Internet, in addition to voting by mail or in person.

In previous years, and on the first day of class, I have given my new students a ballot, indicating that "it is time to elect the leader of a great nation," and offering them two candidates, A and B.

Candidate A is identified as "a well-known critic of government, this man has been involved in tax protest movements, and has openly advocated secession, armed rebellion against the existing national government, and even the overthrow of that government. He is a known member of a militia group that was involved in a shoot-out with law enforcement authorities. He opposes gun control efforts of the present national government, as well as restrictions on open immigration into this country. He is a businessman who has earned his fortune from such businesses as alcohol, tobacco, retailing, and smuggling."

Government has a boundless appetite to inflict senseless pain on Americans, in the guise of the war on drugs, even at the cost of degrading Federalism and the needs and values of the American people. A recent case demonstrates this arrogance handily.

Ed Rosenthal was a medical marijuana supplier who, in compliance with the California Compassionate Use Act, had been growing marijuana for seriously ill people under a doctor's advice and care. Rosenthal was arrested in February, 2002 and accused of supplying marijuana to the Harm Reduction Center in San Francisco. Rosenthal had been deputized by the city of Oakland, California and made the official supplier of a city-sponsored medical marijuana dispensary. The Compassionate Use Act passed with 78 percent of the vote in San Francisco. It took a total of eighty jurors to find twelve willing to convict Rosenthal. Most of those summoned for jury duty said they would not be willing to brand someone a felon for growing or distributing medical marijuana...
