Freeware & Utilities

Here are several of the utilities I've written to ease my own life.
The only documentation is available via "F1": most work via drag-&-drop, or by adding a reference to it in the Send-To menu (preferred).
They each require the VB6 runtime, available from Microsoft.

Binner.exe
Binner  (Size: 28 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:47:04 AM)
Helps you translate a binary number to a string and vice versa.

Helps you determine the appropriate ContentType for a file. This is useful for finding out the correct ContentType header to use within your ASP pages.

CType.exe

Creates a textfile listing of acceptable MIME types/ContentType's for your system. This is used in conjunction with the ContentType Service to provide a repository of known ContentType headers to (web-)developers for use in their applications and websites.

FixNames.exe
FixNames  (Size: 64 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:48:44 AM)
Let's you do some great stuff to filenames. If you've collected a great deal of MP3's you can use this app to help you recursively Rename all files you select. Options include replacing specified characters, splitting the filename into directories, and formatting filenames to Title Case). Does *NOT* use the 'Scripting Runtime.'

FixRO.exe
FixRO  (Size: 32 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:48:44 AM)
Turns off the ReadOnly attribute of a file or iterates through every file in a directory (and subs). This is a great file to have at the root of your home-made CD's. You can just drag the directory from the CD to the desktop, then drag it back from the desktop to FixRO and all the files will have their ReadOnly attribute turned off again.

IconExtractor.exe
IconExtractor  (Size: 60 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:48:58 AM)
Extracts all readable icons from files in a directory (and subs). This is a great way to get all the icons on your hard drive in one fell swoop (I've collected over six *thousand* icons with this little puppy). Source available.

ImgView.exe
ImgView  (Size: 40 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:00 AM)
Simple drag and drop utility for previewing image files. Reads most any file that you can view in MSIE. Can resize itself to fit the image, or resize the image to fit the window (zoom). If you get HiJaak this utility can make resizing/cropping a picture very easy.

IterAZL.exe
IterAZL  (Size: 60 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:04 AM)
Very similar to IterateDB in that it iterates through the table, except this one's sole purpose in life is to TURN ON the Allow-Zero-Length setting for text fields. If you've ever worked with Access tables, you know how annoying it is to accidentally 'forget' that one text field is still AZL=False. Your users will tell you <g>

IterateDB.exe
IterateDB  (Size: 68 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:04 AM)
Iterates through an Access database or databases and spits out table definitions for every table it finds. If you press CTRL while drag & dropping the file(s) the results will be output as seperate files for each table (in a new subdirectory). Also requires DAO 3.6 (available from MS in MDAC_TYP).

NetSol_S.exe
NetSol_S  (Size: 60 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:12 AM)
Checks to see if a domain name is available at Network Solutions ®. If the domain is not available it can check at specified intervals (useful for domains that have expired but still appear to be "in use").

Nix@Nix.exe
Nix@Nix  (Size: 32 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:12 AM)
Fixes the Unix-isms of files downloaded from a *NIX server. These files generally do not have a carriage-return/line-feed combination which windows users are used to, therefore it appears with little black dots everywhere. This just replaces the LF with CRLF. - *Updated: Now has the ability to affect multiple files at once (via drag and drop on the GUI) and also dynamically determine whether a file is actually binary data - and should not be converted.

SaveNet.exe
SaveNet  (Size: 28 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:32 AM)
Simple drag and drop utility for obtaining files from websites. You drag and drop the link or image to the window and it will be saved in the directory listed. It doesn't prompt or anything. If the file is local already it just copies it out of your cache, otherwise it downloads it in a new process. If the directory you have in the box is invalid it will be red, otherwise it will be black (note: a trailing backslash is required).

Snippets.exe
Snippets  (Size: 76 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:39 AM)
Simple drag and drop utility designed to enable users to easily collect information into simple text files by quickly clipping from other applications.

XFL.exe
XFL  (Size: 120 kb, Updated: 3/26/2008 1:49:54 AM)
'eXtreme Favorites List' builds an Active Server Pages "favorites/links" site for you from your collected URL's. No coding necessary! See a sample (and my own favorites) here: /Favorites.asp - *Updated: Now exports functional procedures into a secondary ASP file which is embedded using an include directive - this makes creating your own configuration options much easier than it was before.
