With every high-tech gadget we buy, we give up a little more privacy. Many devices today are in constant communication with their manufacturer. And it's not just consumers who are losing their rights.

Don't look now, but no matter where you go, you're connected. We -- or most of us, at least -- have opened our front doors to large corporations, hardware manufacturers, software firms and search engines. We have allowed them to rifle through our jacket pockets and handbags. And now they can do as they wish with us, or do the bidding of the powers-that-be -- in the form of a totalitarian government, for example. Don't believe it?

A tranquil college campus in Virginia became a killing field Monday morning. At least 33 people are dead in the worst mass shooting in modern American history.

In a Tuesday morning interview with "Good Morning America's" Diane Sawyer, Virginia Tech president Charles Steger said the shooter who killed himself was a student of Asian descent who resided in a Virginia Tech dormitory.

The death of a Canadian teenager who suffered a fatal allergic reaction to peanuts after kissing her boyfriend is putting a renewed focus on a condition suffered by thousands of Americans.

Fifteen-year-old Christina Desforges of Saguenay, Quebec, died last week after kissing her boyfriend, who had eaten a peanut butter sandwich hours earlier. He passed along traces of peanuts to Desforges, who was severely allergic, and she immediately became short of breath. She was given a shot of adrenaline to counteract the symptoms, but that did not help. She died of respiratory failure in a Quebec City hospital.

A student strip-searched for drugs when she was in eighth grade took her case to a federal appeals court on Wednesday, arguing through a lawyer that school officials had violated her constitutional rights by overzealously enforcing a strict policy against alcohol, narcotics - and, in her case, Ibuprofen.

A new report has found that organic produce growers have experienced an 80 per cent growth in farm-gate sales over the last four years, despite the widespread drought.

The report, released by the Biological Farmers of Australia, also reveals that Australia now accounts for the largest amount of organic farmland in the world. The report on the state of the organic market says it is now worth around $230 million a year and there are 2,750 certified growers in Australia.

A foster couple is accused of taking in thousands of dollars meant for child care and spending it on themselves.

They are also accused of trying to collect more money after the children had left their care. Over the past six years, Purcell and Laverne Johnson were trusted with taking care of nearly 90 foster children in their Riverside County foster home. For that, they were paid a salary of $144,000 a year.
