Governor Abbott signed House Bill 418, authored by Representative Gene Wu (D-Houston), into law on Tuesday. Representative Wu authored the bill to help rescue children who are victims of human trafficking or sex trafficking.

Effective September 1, 2015, House Bill 418 will allow law enforcement and Child Protective Services (CPS) to immediately take suspected child victims of trafficking into protective custody and place them into care. "This law will provide real protection for child victims of trafficking," said Wu. "Police officers will now have the ability to place child victims in protective custody-instead of trying to find ways to arrest or confine victims in order to protect them."

An estimated 100,000 older Americans are hospitalized for adverse drug reactions yearly, and most of those emergencies stem from four common medications, a new study finds.

The four types of medication -- two for diabetes and two blood-thinning agents -- account for two-thirds of those drug-related emergency hospitalizations. Working with a nationally representative database, CDC researchers identified more than 5,000 cases of drug-related adverse events that occurred among people aged 65 and older from 2007 to 2009 and used that to make their estimates for the whole population.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed three cases of a new flu virus, which originated in pigs but apparently spread from person to person, in three Iowa children.

The CDC has counted a total of 18 cases of this new virus, an influenza A strain known as S-OtrH3N2, in two years. That suggests that it's not spreading quickly or easily, says William Schaffner, a professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and spokesman for the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Schaffner notes that flu viruses mutate and swap genes all the time.

A British mother has appeared on national television condemning antidepressants, saying that when she was prescribed them she began fantasising about killing her own children.

Katinka Blackford Newman appeared on ITV's This Morning saying that the antidepressants prescribed by her doctor caused her to become aggressive, delusional and psychotic. What happened to her might only happen in one out of every 100 to 1,000 cases, but that's far too many when an entire family's well-being is at stake.

Women do not enter menopause directly. Before this period, there is the period of perimenopause that occurs several years before the last menstruation. As previously mentioned, there are numerous changes in the organism- the hormones do not work as usual; there is no ovulation, irregular menstruation and frequent bleeding appear. Since there is not enough estrogen, there are other changes in the metabolism, in the skin, mood, etc.
