A Texas board was set to decide Thursday whether the state will issue specialty license plates featuring the Confederate battle flag, a plan Gov. Rick Perry has said he opposes but will not block.

All nine members of the Department of Motor Vehicles board were appointed by the Republican governor, who is seeking the GOP presidential nomination and has previously defended the historical value of Confederacy symbols. But when asked about the proposed plates last month, Perry said "we don't need to be opening old wounds."

The celebration of Christmas, and the culture of gift giving that accompanies the holiday, have changed significantly in America over the years.

Although the Christmas celebration existed in America from the settlers' earliest times, the holiday remained small in scale until the 19th century, when it began to play a larger role in national culture, building on the work of Moore, Nast, Irving and others. It achieved its much larger and truly modern scale only after the transformation of the holiday between 1880 and 1910.

On April 11 the host of Fox's Varney & Co, agreed with Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, that the three major TV networks were withholding information from the American public that revealed the detrimental effects of ObamaCare.

Bozell hurled the charge that the networks are "deliberately censoring news and information from the American people," then backed it up with substantial evidence. The evidence include the following stories, none of which got even one mention on the networks...

It doesn't get more ironic than this: Barack Obama, who boasted of how his administration was the "most transparent in history," cracked jokes at the Gridiron Club annual dinner Saturday night about his transparency while the event was closed to outside press...

In a counterattack against the efforts by the White House and its minions in the mainstream media to eradicate Fox News, Kirtsten Powers, a liberal who works for Fox News, pulls no punches about how serious the situation is, saying, "There is no war on terror for the Obama White House, but there is one on Fox News ...what the Obama administration is doing, and what liberals are funding at MMFA is beyond chilling - it's a deep freeze."

In the most cursory, superficial, trifling, desultory, half-assed, perfunctory, shallow, cut-rate, inadequate, insubstantial, meager, rinky-dink review of a book ever written, Justin Green, writing on David Frum's blog, called Ben Shapiro's Bullies "less a book than a marketing campaign for the conservative rage movement." Not a word of Green's review indicates he actually read the book; there is no quote, not even the slightest reference to even a chapter.

CNN, in an attempt to frame the gun debate as rational gun control advocates versus wild-eyed gun owners, posted two clips edited from the Ben Shapiro-Piers Moran wipeout, while at the same time posting the entire interview Morgan did with Alex Jones.

This is by design; to many, Jones left an impression of a wild-eyed fanatic who couldn't have a rational discussion, which made Morgan seem as though he represented the rational side of the argument. Shapiro, on the other hand, was even lauded by the Obama mouthpiece Washington Post as "a foe of extraordinary polemical agility." Thus CNN edited Shapiro's takedown of Morgan into two smaller segments, here and here, while leaving Jones in toto here and here. Interestingly, the parts of the Shapiro interview CNN left to watch were the ones that focused on his defense of the Second Amendment as a bulwark against tyranny, leaving out a huge swath in the middle of the interview where Shapiro...

Remember when ABC News elided Mitt Romney's entire opening speech from their transcript of the first presidential debate? Now it's the New York Times that has cut a key phrase from Paul Ryan's closing speech in his debate with Joe Biden last night.

For those who watched or listened to the debate, remember Ryan saying this as he closed? "The choice is clear: a stagnant economy that promotes more government dependency, or a dynamic, growing economy that promotes opportunity and jobs. Mitt Romney and I will not duck the tough issues." Fine so far, right? But then Ryan continued, "And we will not blame others for the next four years."
