Remember "voodoo economics"- The phrase comes from the first President Bush.

What seemed like exotic hocus-pocus to the elder George Bush was the idea that if you cut taxes, people might work more, and hence earn more, which would then result in higher tax revenues. I never understood why Bush thought this was akin to Haitian head-shrinking and black magic.

The big lie is that the income tax applies to domestic Americans, when it fact, it does not.

The powers that be know the American people simply don't want to believe that their favorite politician, whether it be FDR, Joe Libermann, Dana Rohrabacher, Jimmy Carter, Jesse Helms, Diane Feinstein or George Bush, Jr., have been lying to them. People would rather willfully believe the big lie than face reality. The path of least resistance and that's how slaves are made.

At 2:00 a.m. Daylight Savings Time ended for another year as most Americans turned their clocks back before they went to bed last night.

A few, of course, forgot and went to church this morning an hour early. None of them will likely arrive at work tomorrow an hour early. Even the dumbest of us aren't really that stupid. And because, as a nation, we've been living with Daylight Savings Time for sixty years, few Americans wonder how the practice began.

The modern two-income family is no better off than the one-income family from decades ago.

Social engineering includes the child abuse industry and the sexual harassment industry. Critics refer to them as "industries" because their enforcement policies have established bloated and expensive bureaucracies that slurp at the public trough. The cost to taxpaying families is immense.

On the surface, this week's ruling by the Ninth Circuit court of appeals - overturning the death sentences of more than 100 inmates in Arizona, Montana, and Idaho - is the latest sign of statistical retreat for capital punishment in America.

Reflect Americans' ambivalence about a penalty that most still believe in but are more hesitant to inflict. On the one hand, legislatures are enacting tough-on-crime laws. Attorney General John Ashcroft has been an active proponent of tough sentencing. And 74 percent of Americans favor the death penalty for a person convicted of murder, according to the latest Gallup Poll in May. (The number drops to 53 percent when life without parole is an alternative.)
