In 2010 a federal immigration judge awarded political asylum to a family whose German government was persecuting for having the temerity to homeschool their children.

Now, three years later, the Obama administration seems poised to reverse that decision and deport the family back to Germany. Uwe Romeike, his wife, and children were told that they could stay as legal residents in Morrisstown, Tennessee, when the family moved there in 2008 after being threatened by German authorities because they homeschooled their children instead of sending them to government schools. In 2010, Mr. Romeike told reporters that, "I think it's important for parents to have the freedom to choose the way their children can be taught." German authorities felt differently, though. The Romeikes were threatened with jail in the homeland unless they ceased homeschooling and turned their children over to the state.

President Obama's State of the Union speech was yet another opportunity to demand a new laundry list of big government programs and massive spending, but MSNBC's Chris Matthews seemed to have some trouble seeing anything "liberal" in it.

As he analyzed the speech during his February 13 broadcast, Matthews told Chuck Todd that he truly couldn't see any overtly leftist. "There's nothing lefty in here. What's the left-wing part? Objectively, was there a left wing piece to this speech last night? I mean, truly left? I didn't see it," he said. Still, even in his denial a bit of truth broke through Matthews' partisanship: "I mean, basically, he was moving the ball maybe one foot to the left of the midfield."

So, why are armed guards good for the President, Mayor Emanuel, and NBC's David Gregory, but not the rest of us?

On NBC's Meet The Press over the weekend, David Gregory was quite confrontational with the Vice President of the National Rifle Association over the organization's idea of putting armed security guards in every school in America. But even as Gregory mocked the NRA for the idea, he seems to see nothing wrong with sending his own kids to a school that has armed security guards each school day. Introducing the NRA's security guard proposal, Gregory confronted NRA VP Wayne LaPierre saying, "You blamed Hollywood and the gaming industry. But never once did you concede that guns could actually be part of the problem. Is that a meaningful contribution, Mr. LaPierre, or a dodge?"

One of the more absurd aspects of the New York school system is that the teachers union is given the right to investigate itself when teachers are accused of sexual misconduct.

In too many cases the union sides with the criminal teachers instead of their victims. In the Wall Street Journal, Campbell Brown laments this cozy relationship that unions have with their predator members citing several examples of the failure to punish criminal behavior in New York schools. "If this kind of behavior were happening in any adult workplace in America, there would be zero tolerance. Yet our public school children are defenseless," he writes.

In its update on the coming student loan interest rate hike deal in Congress, Politico dances its blame-the-GOP tap dance once again, saying that the coming rate hike is all just "politics."

But somehow Politico forgets to note that this interest rate problem is of the Democrats' own making. Reporting that Congress has signed off on a bipartisan deal to halt the scheduled interest rate increase on millions of student loans, Politico takes a paragraph to "explain" what the hold up was.

Presidential hopeful Herman Cain made an appearance on ABC's The View this week and had to deflect staggering ignorance from host Joy Behar.

Discussing Cain's assertion that some blacks are "brainwashed" not to consider any conservative ideas, the very first sentence out of Behar's mouth was "The Republican Party hasn't been black friendly over the many centuries in this country." Sadly, the coffee klatch program is what passes for as "intelligent" conversation on TV these days. Behar's blather is ignorant in a million ways and indicative of the historical illiteracy of the far left in this country.

In a blow to the autonomy of the media it has been discovered that employees of two Old Media outlets are the happy beneficiaries of hundreds of thousands of federal dollars from an Obamacare slush fund.

CBS and the Washington Post have both taken large payments from Obama's Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP), with the Post getting $573,217 while CBS has received a whopping $722,388.

No one knows exactly how many children are being taught at home, but new figures suggest numbers in England are growing. Why is this?

In some of England's largest local authority areas, hundreds of young people are being home educated: Kent listed 1,285 children; Essex, 1,234; Norfolk, 1,052; and Lancashire, 918. About 85% of local authorities documented a rise in home education over those three years, with 27 authorities reporting a doubling of numbers.

I just returned from New York, where I attended my 30th Columbia University reunion. I celebrated with my esteemed classmates. Everyone except Barack Obama.

As usual- he wasn't there. Not even a video greeting. Not a personalized letter to his classmates. Nothing. But worse, no one at our 30th reunion ever met him. The President of the United States is the ghost of Columbia University. I'm certainly no "Johnny come lately." For five years now (since 2007 when it became clear Barack Obama was running for President), I've been quoted in the media as saying that no one I've ever met at Columbia can remember ever meeting, or even seeing, our college classmate Barack Obama. Don't you think the media should be asking questions? Isn't this a very strange story?

Hello, I'm Wayne Allyn Root for Personal Liberty. And have I got a story for you. I am President Obama's college classmate from Columbia University, Class of '83. And I've got a hunch on the scandal that ends Obama's hopes for a second term.

No, it's not his birth certificate. The scandal that takes down Obama's Presidency happened 30 years ago at Columbia University. This is the smoking gun. This also ties into Harry Reid's hunch about Mitt Romney's tax records. You see Senator Reid opened up Pandora's box. He made it OK for any of us to play a guessing game. If Harry can guess about Romney's taxes, without a shred of evidence... then a citizen and taxpayer and former college classmate of Obama has the standing to do a little educated guessing of my own. You see my background is one of a kind. I'm one of the most accurate Las Vegas oddsmakers and prognosticators ever...
