Last week I friend of mine who's a mathematician was helping me out with a formula I was trying to create which could predict how successful a post from a brand page on Facebook was going to be.

We worked for a couple of hours on what I had already and he changed it around a little and added some distributions I didn't really understand, but by the time we were done we had a formula which we thought would do the trick. We ran a couple of randomly selected posts through the formula and... yep, as we'd hoped, it was working pretty much perfectly and scoring the posts on a scale of 0 - 100, with 0 being the least successful post possible and 100 being wildly successful.

I used to think time was the most limited resource. It's so limited that you can't even save it for later.

But there's something even more limited than time. It's your attention. Attention is a subset of time, therefore it's more limited. How you spend your attention is more important than how you spend your time. Attention is about focus and careful, thoughtful consideration. Unlike time - which can be broken into convenient chunks of 15 minutes - attention doesn't divide quite so neatly or easily.

Thursday night and checking Facebook on my mobile before going to sleep. One of my friends is complaining about how hard it is to use Yahoo mail abroad. Problem logging in and now there's some problem with the account.

"Your E-mail account has exceeded its limit and needs to be verified, if not verified within 24 hours, we shall suspend your account. Click Here to verify your email account now." And when you try to resolve it, it doesn't even work. You just end up on the login page! Damn Yahoo! Stop! This message is not about a problem with the mail system, it's a very typical phishing mail. I responded with a warning, and yes, the link had indeed been clicked and the credentials entered on a page that looked like the Yahoo login page. That made my friend a phishing victim like so many other Internet users...

Mitt Romney is just not going to cut it for many of Ron Paul's devoted legion of young followers.

Most of the Ron Paul supporters approached by Red Alert Politics Friday night at the Liberty Political Action Conference in Chantilly, Va., said they could not see many differences between Romney and President Obama. Their general consensus was that Romney is a weak candidate who has not effectively made his case. Libertarian candidate Gov. Gary Johnson seemed to be the choice of many. They seemed undeterred by suggestions that a vote for anyone other than Romney equals a vote for Obama as they exited the ballroom where Paul had just finished speaking.

Like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg is someone who cares deeply about creating perfect products, and he pays close attention to detail.

Early employee Noah Kagan, who now runs SumoMe, worked for Facebook for nine months in 2005. He remembers some startling ways the young CEO reacted when he didn't feel an employee's work was good enough. One time, Kagan recalls Zuckerberg dumping water on an engineer's computer and calling the product he demoed "shit."

It's been five years since the death of 3-year-old Marcus Fiesel at the hands of his foster parents that captured the attention of the region, state and nation, sent two people to prison and led to a child welfare system overhaul.

Marcus' death during the weekend of Aug. 4-6, 2006, in the closet of the Carrolls' Union Twp. home in Clermont County placed a giant spotlight on some gaping holes in the child welfare system and led private foster placement agency, the former Lifeway for Youth, from operating in the state. While his death was the breaking point to prompt reform in Ohio's foster care and children services system, other children died while under the charge of Butler County Children Services: Tiffany Hubbard, 3, of Hamilton in 1986; Randi Fuller, 2, of Hamilton, in 2000; Christopher Long, 2, of Middletown, in 2001; Courtney Centers, 3, of Middletown in 2002; Jesus Rodriquez, 7 months, of Hamilton in 2003; and Justin Johnson, 13 months, of Middletown in 2004.

Pricing your own product is always a tricky proposition, and the more critical the price is to your product's success, the more difficult it is to set.

It's easy to look at another product and say how much you would be willing to pay for it, but how can you know how much people would be willing to pay for yours? There are no absolute truths or perfect formulas for finding the best price, assuming that the "best price" even exists. Instead, take a structured approach to finding a good starting point, and improve it through feedback and testing. But first, you need to understand what the best price actually is.

So what happens, when you are a police captain, and refuse to attend the "Police Appreciation Day", an event sponsored by The Islamic Society of Tulsa?

Why, you get punished by being demoted, being docked 2 weeks pay, and told you will not be eligible for promotion. That is what happened to Captain Paul Fields, who is Christian, and decided to opt out of the event, (I am surprised that they didn't demand that he receive sensitivity training as well...at least they haven't yet.) In fact, many officers had that option initially because it was a voluntary to attend. But after systemic disinterest the superiors in the department made the day mandatory.

In case you missed it, Boeing announced massive layoffs and facilities closures yesterday. More: Small business owners are dropping the axe as they brace for the costs and burdens of Obamacare. In case you missed it, I reported on Obama's layoff bomb last week...

Russia is introducing a full 12 months embargo on the import of beef, pork, fruits and vegetables, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and the Kingdom of Norway.

Russia is also introducing an airspace ban against European and US airlines that fly over our airspace to Eastern Asia, namely, the Asia-Pacific Region and is considering changing the so-called Russian airspace entry and exit points for European scheduled and charter flights. Furthermore, Russia is ready to revise the rules of using the trans-Siberian routes, and will also discontinue talks with the US air authorities on the use of the trans-Siberian routes. Finally, starting this winter, we may revoke the additional rights issued by the Russian air authorities beyond the previous agreements. This is such an interesting and major development that it requires a much more subtle analysis than just the crude calculation of how much this might cost the EU or US. I will attempt no such calculation, but instead I would point out the following elements...
