After watching several documentaries about our food supply and learning just how deficient in nutrients the food we consume has become over the past 30-years, our family has decided to make some serious changes. Senate passes new food police bill: Roll call vote 73-25; Senator Bennet: "It's all rigged"

I mentioned last week that a new Big Foodie bill opposed by a diverse coalition of limited government activists, small family farmers, and left-leaning "locovores" was coming down the pike. Today, I'm disappointed to tell you, the regulatory expansion bill masquerading as a "safety" measure passed by a large margin -- with stomach-turning Republican support. Here's the roll call vote...

Take a look at that picture with all kinds of good stuff - fruits, veggies, nuts, milk, and yogurt. Now imagine it with one of those red circles over it, the kind with a line through to indicate everything therein is banned or off-limits.

Hold that image in your mind because it's what you can expect if the much-vaunted FDA Food Safety bill - now on the floor of the Senate -- is passed into law. The wipe-out won't happen right away, but it will happen - gradually, over the next few years.

All 65 of the free-range turkeys raised at White Gate Farm this year had their destinies decided weeks ago by the local families who reserved them for their main course this Thanksgiving.

"It would be a terrible thing if this ended up making the food supply less safe, and that's a real possibility," said Lord. It would be less safe, she believes, if the regulatory burden ends up causing some farms to curtail or even quit production of local food, undermining the local food movement that's been attracting growing numbers of devotees in recent years.

Senate Bill 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, has been called "the most dangerous bill in the history of the United States of America."

It would grant the U.S. government new authority over the public's right to grow, trade and transport any foods. This would give Big brother the power to regulate the tomato plants in your backyard. It would grant them the power to arrest and imprison people selling cucumbers at farmer's markets. It would criminalize the transporting of organic produce if you don't comply with the authoritarian rules of the federal government.

The Food Safety Modernization act sounds like a good idea. But this bill poses a grave danger to our food supply, and our liberty, and small farmers, especially raw dairy farmers.

There are many reasons to oppose S510, the so-called "Food Safety" bill that will come up in the Senate after the election. It will do nothing to improve actual food safety, relying almost totally on burdensome paperwork.

There are few things more annoying than people blaming their failures on others. There are few things more ironically humorous than watching a clueless person publicly scold people and in the process reveal his or her own ignorance.

Actually, it was more revealing than McLaughlin realizes. Perhaps she has spent too much time in Barney Frank's district (he was a customer), but businesses don't succeed by telling customers what they should want to buy. Customers have this annoying tendency to know...

In the Nov. 5 edition of the Federal Register, the FDA estimates "a total of 14,068,808 recurring hours, with nearly all of these for vending machine operators, including 31,408 recurring hours for recordkeeping and 14,037,400 recurring hours.

Most of the burden of the regulation, which is buried in President Obama's 2,000 page health-care reform bill, will fall on the vending industry. The industry, which is dominated by small businesses, continues to question the need for the new regulation. In doing its own calculations, NAMA has determined that that the FDA's estimate may still be underestimating the time investment necessary.

With people across the United States gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving, there's a game-style application making the rounds on Facebook that allows you to host a virtual holiday dinner to raise funds for the United Nations World Food Programme.

The game players don't have to donate a dime. The funds come from revenue that SocialVibe sponsors pay to place short interactive activities within the game. Thanksgiving Feast is an example of how SocialVibe plans to use the vast reach of social networks like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace for community causes.

Sao Paulo -- A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds (30 kilograms) while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness. The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.
