After watching several documentaries about our food supply and learning just how deficient in nutrients the food we consume has become over the past 30-years, our family has decided to make some serious changes. We are buying organic, eating in season and buying locally. Our meat is grassfed, our bread in homebaked and I feel good about what my family is eating.

An E. coli outbreak linked to tainted lettuce has sickened at least 19 people in Ohio, New York and Michigan, including students on at least two college campuses, prompting a recall throughout much of the country.

Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio, says it is recalling romaine lettuce sold in 23 states and the District of Columbia. Federal health authorities say 12 of those sickened were hospitalized and three reported life-threatening symptoms. The CDC says it is looking at 10 other cases probably linked to the outbreak.

Cattle vaccination campaign - Libya Wednesday launched a national vaccination campaign in Al-Hamada Al-Hamra, south-west of the country, to immunize over one million sheep against micro-organisms.

The campaign, the largest ever conducted in Libya, is part of the periodic vaccination campaign meant for all sheep in the region. He said the work was not only limited to vaccinations but also to take random samples of flocks of sheep and to analyze them.

Avian Influenza is continuing to devastate the Mexican poultry industry with some reports stating that two million birds have now been destroyed.

According to the last notification report of the OIE dated 28th February, there are 11 reported outbreaks in the Guanajuato region with over 1 million susceptible birds confirmed. However, there are fears that the number is growing ostensibly and the impact will soon be felt on the market as was the case last year, when prices sky-rocketed as a result of an AI outbreak.

Yesterday Whole Foods called the nation's raw milk providers to inform us that as of today, Saturday March 13 at 8 am, they will be removing all raw milk from their shelves. Their actions make it seem like a health emergency, and it is not.

This is not a safety issue. Our wholesome and delicious raw milk is still available at local stores throughout CA. As a very large corporation, Whole Foods must respond to the decisions of their board of directors.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) has repeatedly introduced two bills related to GE crops and foods in the House of Representatives.

The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act would require mandatory labeling of all GE foods; the other, The Genetically Engineered Food Safety Act, would require mandatory, pre-market safety testing of GE foods. We need you to contact your Representatives and encourage them to support these important bills!

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to hear a first-time case about the risks of genetically engineered crops. Named Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, No. 09-475, the case before the high court in an ongoing battle waged by the Center for Food Safety

The modified alfalfa seed at the heart of the dispute has been engineered to be immune to Monsanto's flagship herbicide Roundup. Monsanto intervened in a 2007 federal district court ruling that the Department of Agriculture's approval of GE alfalfa was illegal.

A company director who provided pies to Buckingham Palace has been jailed for re-packaging cheap supermarket goods as organic.

Stansfield, of Daventry, Northants, was jailed for 27 months. His wife, company secretary Kate, 44, got a suspended jail term. Both admitted fraudulent trading.

On July 26, with a brief article, the Sacramento Bee broke the story that Nestle Waters is coming to Sacramento. A glowing article in the Business Journal and a critical article in the News and Review followed, and then the story was mostly forgotten.

Nestle claims that their Sacramento plant will be a "micro-bottling plant," bottling only 50 million gallons of water. Nestle has fought for the last 6 years, without success, to establish a bottling plant in the town of McCloud, California. While rumors abound that Nestle is abandoning their plans for McCloud, the company has indicated that it all depends on what happens in Sacramento.
