Cacao and cocoa are kind of the same thing... They're also very different! We don't want to confuse you but we want you to discover the truth about their differences.

The studies that boast of chocolate's amazing health benefits are not referring to your average store-bought chocolate bar (damn misleading researchers). The chocolate that they're referring to is raw cacao. Raw cacao is made by cold-pressing unroasted cacao beans. The process keeps the living enzymes in the cacao and removes the fat (cacao butter).

Fresh Eggs Daily put up a Facebook post that has everyone stirred up about how to read egg labels and how most eggs are on average, 45 days (or more) in age. The core theme of the post is understanding how egg producers manipulate labels...

So today (1/19) I was shopping and snapped a few photos of some egg cartons. EVERY date I saw on them was between 352-355, meaning that those eggs were put in that carton on the 352nd-355th day of last year. Add to that the 19 days so far this year, and these eggs have all been in the carton for about a month (and could have been laid up to 30 days prior to that) and check out the Sell by dates - these eggs can still sit on the shelf for a few more weeks.

When it comes to foods, superfoods and even nutritional supplements from China, "organic" is largely a hoax. And I've come to the conclusion that "organic" from China is largely a fraud. Here's why...

First off, you're going to be shocked to learn that there is no limit to how much mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic and aluminum is allowed in "organic" products. It's a fact: USDA organic standards place NO LIMITS on levels of heavy metals contamination of certified organic foods.

Butter is one of the most purchased food products this time of the year when everyone is baking something special for the holidays.

When I first started learning how to bake, if a recipe would call for butter, well, that is what I used. I've never really been a fan of margarine or shortening even if a recipe called for it.

In approving genetically engineered salmon as safe to eat and safe for the environment, the Food and Drug Administration rejected petitions from environmental and food safety groups asking that companies selling this salmon be required to label it.

The salmon, made by AquaBounty Technologies of Maynard, Mass., has genes inserted that allow it to grow to market size twice as fast as wild salmon. The F.D.A.'s approval permits the engineered salmon to be raised only in land-based hatchery tanks in two facilities - one in Canada, where genes are injected into the eggs of Atlantic salmon, and a facility in Panama, where the fish are grown to market size. Each site has physical barriers to prevent the escape of eggs and fish.

Polls indicate alarm over the contamination of everyday foods by pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, synthetic additives and, especially, genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

A recent New York Times poll found that 93 percent of Americans want GMOs labeled, an action already required by 64 nations. Two-thirds of Americans believe that GMOs are unsafe. Millions of consumers are switching over to non-GMO, organic foods, and as a result organics have moved from a niche market into a $40 billion powerhouse. Indeed, Americans now spend more than 10 cents of every food dollar for items that are labeled "organic," "non-GMO" or "natural."

With our hack, you can peel 12 hard-boiled eggs in less than 2 minutes.

Her method-which she uses to peel a dozen eggs in under two minutes!-is simple: Start by bringing a large part of water to a boil. Add cold eggs-not room temperature ones that have been on the counter for an hour-to the boiling water with a slotted spoon and cook for 9 minutes.

Is fish safe to eat? That's becoming an incredibly hard question to answer. Typically you want select fresh wild seafood instead of farmed, but avoiding seafood might be a trend of the future.

"As of June, 2015, the radiation in the Pacific Ocean reached the US West Coast; the seafood you've been eating from the Pacific ocean is loaded with Cesium-137 and Strontium-90. Both radioactive. Strontium-90 mimics calcium. It ends up getting deposited in human bones, where the radiation wreaks havoc with bone marrow, causing bone cancers and blood cancers like Leukemia. The radiation in the fish is so terrible that wild-caught Alaskan Salmon, Pacific Herring and Canadian white fish are being found bloody, with cancerous tumors throughout their bodies."

California health officials on Tuesday warned people to avoid eating Dungeness and Rock crabs that contain dangerous levels of a neurotoxin linked to a massive algae bloom off the West Coast.

High levels of domoic acid were found in crabs from the Oregon border to the southern Santa Barbara County line, the Department of Public Health reported. In severe poisoning cases, the neurotoxin can cause seizures, coma or death.
