To restore the ocean ecosystem, you're saying we must put an end to overfishing and bottom trawling, which you liken to "catching songbirds with a bulldozer." Is there such a thing as eating fish responsibly these days?

Except for those living in coastal communities - or even inland if we're talking freshwater species - for most people, eating fish is a choice, not a necessity. Some people believe that the sole purpose of fish is for us to eat them. They are seen as commodities. Yet wild fish, like wild birds, have a place in the natural ecosystem which outweighs their value as food. They're part of the systems that make the planet function in our favor, and we should be protecting them because of their importance to the ocean.

2015 has not been a good year for food safety for 15 million Americans. While recalls for salmonella and listeria, the most common pathogens related to food recalls are down, recalls for undeclared food allergens have broken a record in 2015.

Foreign citizens and governments are focused on GMO content as another major health risk source. The bottom line is that people everywhere have a right to know the contents of the foods they eat. Money should not be able to buy laws that keep consumers in the dark. We have the right to know what we are eating, drinking and breathing. There are strict laws on declaring food allergens, which need to be extended to include GMO content. The refusal to identify GMO content has serious health repercussions in the US. The FDA has increased the allowable amount of glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup pesticide, in the past two years, e.g. as much as 30 times on potatoes. Glyphosate has been classified as "probably carcinogenic" by the World Health Organization. US companies selling products with GMO content to foreign markets are already relabeling these products or reformulating them to go into these markets.

It seems with the many reports of birth defects, organ failure, cancer, and other unsavory health conditions associated with GMO consumption, we should limit the use of GMO in baby products.

After all, babies are very sensitive to the foods they consume, and we already know that pesticides found in mother's milk can be damaging. Below you will learn of three companies which represent more than 90% of baby formula sales in the US that won't consider removing GMOs from your baby's food.

EU lawmakers on Wednesday rejected by a huge majority a hard-won compromise which would have allowed EU member states to decide for themselves whether or not to import Genetically Modified Organisms for use in food and animal feed.

Parliament voted 557 to 75 against a law which took the European Commission years to negotiate amid deep suspicions about the possible health and safety implications of GMO products. The outcome, however, turned on a matter of principle -- allowing member states to ban GMO products would mean erecting barriers within the EU's most cherished achievement, its single market of more than 500 million people.

The stories became far too frequent to ignore. Emails from folks with allergic or digestive issues to wheat in the United States experienced no symptoms whatsoever when they tried eating pasta on vacation in Italy.

Confused parents wondering why wheat consumption sometimes triggered autoimmune reactions in their children but not at other times. The bottom line is that avoidance of conventional wheat in the United States is absolutely imperative even if you don't currently have a gluten allergy or wheat sensitivity. What about other crops where Roundup is used as a pre-harvest dessicant such as barley, sugar cane, rice, seeds, dried beans and peas, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, and sugar beets? Will you only be buying these crops in organic form from now on to avoid this modern, man-made scourge?

Before all of the blueberries disappear, I had to get one more summer dessert in. Take a look at this beautiful Paleo Blueberry Lemon Bread. It's loaded with protein-rich almond flour, nutrient-dense eggs, and oh-so-good-for-you coconut oil.

I'm a creature of habit, and the small rituals of life make me happy. Every Sunday morning I wake up, eat breakfast, and head to my local Farmer's Market. The first place we go is the gluten free bakery booth for Pao de Queijo (or Brazilian cheese bread.) My little one gets one plain and one olive. She eats the plain one right away. If you haven't tried these chewy little breads made with tapioca flour, you are seriously missing out. (Hmmm, I feel a new recipe post coming on!)

In the late 1800s, one of every four trees in our forests was the American chestnut. These stately native trees provided valuable and handsome timber, excellent firewood and plentiful, nutritious nuts for both people and wildlife.

The two dozen tiny trees (12-inch "plantlets") were planted in May at a 1-acre site on the Camp Fire Club's 232-acre grounds and will be monitored closely by federal officials over the next few years. "The trees are 99.9 percent pure American chestnuts, with the addition of one wheat gene" to protect the tree from the killing fungus, says Preston Bruenn, the club's Conservation Committee chairman who is also an ESF alumnus. The main lodge of the Chappaqua club was built from American chestnut in the early 1900s.

This World Food Day, on Friday, all roads lead to the magnificent Nakuru County in Kenya's rift valley region; where a demonstration and a public debate have been organised to challenge the push for the introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms.

The Kenya Biodiversity Coalition (KBioC) together with Greenpeace Africa, Kenya Organic Agriculture Network (KOAN) and the Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) are joining the rest of the world to celebrate and address critical issues and concerns around the Right to food. Through the demonstration, the organisations aim to call on the Government of Kenya (GOK) not to lift the ban on GMOs.

No, we're not kidding. Help us stop this unwarranted attack. Action Alert!

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, a division of the US Treasury Department, recently sent letters to several producers of kombucha, warning them that since their beverages supposedly exceeded the allowable alcohol limit, they must be labeled as alcoholic beverages and be subject to alcohol regulation or face hefty fines and legal action.

Help us protect the best tasting and healthiest cheese from a spurious new FDA attack. Action Alert!

George W. Bush's FDA banned the import of the finest French artisanal cheeses, which are usually made from raw milk that has been cultured with special bacteria, and then aged, which makes it even safer. This ban just happened to coincide with the French government refusing to join us in the invasion of Iraq and instead criticizing us. Now it appears that Barack Obama's FDA is going after our best domestic artisanal cheeses, also often made from raw milk.
