POUL THORSEN, 49, of Denmark, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of wire fraud and money laundering based on a scheme to steal grant money the CDC had awarded to governmental agencies in Denmark for autism research.

United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said of the case, "Grant money for disease research is a precious commodity. When grant funds are stolen, we lose not only the money, but also the opportunity to better understand and cure debilitating diseases. This defendant is alleged to have orchestrated a scheme to steal over $1 million in CDC grant money earmarked for autism research. We will now seek the defendant's extradition for him to face federal charges in the United States." "Stealing research grant money to line his pockets, as Poul Thorsen stands accused of here today, cheats U.S. taxpayers and will simply not be tolerated," said Derrick L. Jackson, Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Region for the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health & Human Services. "HHS/OIG will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to bring these criminals to justice."

According to an article dated July 4, it has been determined that, in 2003, a hexavalent vaccine (the 4-in-one vaccine that is considered mandatory for children plus two optional vaccines) proved to be fatal to a six month old baby girl in Pesaro, Italy and a civil court judge in Pesaro has found the Italian Ministry of Health guilty as charged. The court has established a 200,000 Euro compensation to the baby girl's family, a lifetime award of about 700 Euros per month, plus additional compensation that still needs to be calculated. The court finally recognized the causal connection that a series of medical consultants to the family and the consultant of the court have established between the hexavalent vaccine and the death of the child. Luca Ventaloro, an attorney who has follwed the girls's family for years, said that the baby girl experienced a number of symptoms related to vaccination including continuous joint pain, total loss of appetite, disruption of her sleep-wake rhythm, and more. He said that the child died while sleeping and an autopsy determined that the final cause was interstitial pneumonia.

Even Ed Rollins said last night on MSNBC that she should admit the mistake and move on. Today she had the chance - and passed on it.

Which is interesting, because she did happily cop to a much more benign mistake a few months ago when she goofed on John Wayne's hometown. Of the two, apparently this is the one she's willing to go to the mat on. The unfounded, potentially life-threatening proposition that vaccinating your kids against HPV might lead to "retardation." Wonderful.

CDC appears to compare vaccinated with unvaccinated. A closer view shows that it looks more like another attempt to obscure the truth.

A study claims to do what should have been done decades ago: identify the background rate of mortality so that an accurate rate of vaccination risk can be determined. It's fairly obvious that such information would be of great value. If you know how many people die in an unvaccinated population, then the rate of death after a vaccine is introduced can beidentified fairly accurately. This study, though, suffers from a multitude of problems that negate any possibility of providing a genuine background rate of mortality to determine a vaccine's risk. The most obvious concern is that the new study does not determine the death rate in an unvaccinated population. In fact, only vaccinated people are included! So how can it possibly provide information about the background death rate in unvaccinated people?

Students at Ball State University are declining to get flu shots. Last year, the University claims it had a pretty intense flu season, which they termed a "flu epidemic," but that hasn't sent a rush of students to the flu shot nurse.

Ball State University wants to believe it is just "youth" causing a great portion of their students to refuse the flu shot, but that might not be the entire case. While the University does it's best to paint a picture of the young and naive, many students are just saying it flat out makes them sick.

Dhaka - Eleven-month-old Tumpa Moni may not know how lucky she was to get two drops of polio vaccine on her tongue on Sunday at a Bangladesh vaccination camp.

But her 15-year-old cousin, Babul, does know. The disease left him paralysed when he was three - when the medicine was unavailable to him - and has recently re-emerged, prompting a government drive to vaccinate up to 20-million children against the dreaded malady.

Bangladesh on Sunday began to vaccinate 24 million children below five years against polio, as the virus resurfaced in the country after five years with the detection of new cases.

Bangladeshi government used 700,000 volunteers to vaccinate the children across the country, Health Ministry spokesman Golam Kibria told Xinhua Sunday. Bangladesh was unofficially declared polio-free in 2000, but two cases of polio were detected this year, Kibria said.

What if a company that you thought you could trust, knowingly sold you a medicine for your child that they knew had the potential to give your child HIV? How would you react?

What if a government agency that claims the responsibility for protecting you from such treachery, not only looked the other way, but was complicit in this exchange? Everyone has heard of Bayer aspirin, it is a household name. Bayer AG also manufactures numerous other products, from pesticides to medicine for hemophiliacs called Factor 8. In 1984 Bayer became aware that several batches of this Factor 8 contained HIV. They knew this because there was an outbreak of HIV among hemophiliac children, and this outbreak was traced back to Bayer. Unable to sell their Factor 8 in the US, Bayer, with the FDA's permission, (yes that's right, the FDA allowed Bayer to potentially kill thousands) sold this HIV infected medicine to Argentina, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore after February 1984, according to the documents obtained by the NY Times. The documents showed how Cutter Biological, a division of Bayer, shipped more than 100,000 vials of unheated concentrate, worth more than $4 million, after it began selling the safer product.

DHAKA: Bangladesh hopes to have vaccinated 24 million children by Saturday as it strives to stamp out polio, the incurable disease which re-emerged in March this year.

Bangladesh, declared polio-free in August 2000, now has 17 cases after a 2-year-old boy in a village near Sylhet, 350 km (219 miles) northeast of Dhaka, was found to have the virus.

Since 2006, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has funded the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to the tune of almost $420 million. Activists from Zimbabwe,Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Ethiopia recently attended the US-Africa Food...

Sovereignty Strategy Summit in Seattle to argue that the Foundation's strategy for agriculture in Africa is a flawed attempt to impose industrial agriculture at the expense of more ecologically sound approaches. Daniel Maingi works with small farmers in Kenya and belongs to the organization Growth Partners for Africa. The Seattle Times reported him as saying that while the goal of helping African farmers is laudable, the 'green revolution' approach is based on Western-style agriculture, with its reliance on fertilizer, weed killers and single crops, such as corn.
