We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

Sonora, CA - Would the world be a better place if more of us were trained to take a mindful moment to connect emotions we are feeling to our brains before we act?

After recently learning mindful behavioral training in their classrooms, a number of elementary school students think so. When asked if the learning is making any difference in their lives, almost every one of them indicates it has. Equally impressive, the sentiments of queried local educators and counselors working with Mindful Schools teacher and mentor Sally Arnold, a Sonora resident, also seem to lean that way. Advocates say that mindfulness, a behavioral learning approach that is experiencing exponential growth in schools across the country, develops a moment-by-moment awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, sensations and surrounding environment. It has been shown to strengthen our ability to pay attention where and when we want. It can also help us regulate our emotions; grow understanding and compassion for what others are experiencing; wisely adapt behavior patterns; increase our ability to calm ourselves; and build resilience to life's ups and downs. Hand-in-hand with this learning comes the nurturing of kindness and compassion to create a positive mind state called "heartfulness."

It's happening. The momentum has shifted. Office workers are now being fired for refusing to take flu shots. Remember when many of us thought it would only be school children?

The pendulum has finally swung in a direction that's not good for us at all. Lutheran Social Ministries has fired three office workers for refusing to get a flu shot or comply with donning surgical masks. All three women are considered to be healthy and worked in the accounting departments. They were OFFICE WORKERS, not nurses or Doctors or laboratory technicians. This is an important distinction to make because it represents a philosophical change and prompts a serious overstepping of our labor rights. According to Newsworks.org, the women intend to sue, however the Ministries position in terminating the women is strongly supported by Legal Scholars (so far).

The average American consumes their body weight annually in this cancer-causing substance, and yet hospitals freely feed it to their cancer patients, oblivious to the harm it does.

Even though the science itself shows - at least since the mid-20's with Otto Warburg's cancer hypothesis -- that tumors prefer to utilize sugar fermentation to produce energy rather than the much more efficient oxygen-based phosphorylation* - hospitals have actually invited corporations like McDonald's to move into their facilities to 'enhance' their patient's gustatory experience, presumably to provide comfort and take the edge off of the painful surgery, radiation and chemo treatments erroneously proffered to them as the only reasonable 'standard of care.'

An old Chinese proverb states, "Only when one cannot sleep does one know how long the night is." Anyone who's ever experienced an occasional bout with insomnia-and that's most of us-can relate to this all too well.

In fact, surveys have shown that between 40 and 60 percent of the general population has trouble sleeping. Daily stress and worries, pressures from job and family, body aches and pains caused by uncomfortable beds or pillows, and a host of other issues can keep a person from getting enough quality sleep.

Many people stretch, but few truly understand that it's an art and a science. There's a right way and a wrong way to derive all the inherent benefits.

There's an ancient adage that proclaims: "You are as young as your spine is flexible." People who've retained the elasticity of their spines and limbs appear youthful and "alive" in middle age and beyond. Consistency of practice and relaxation are two of the biggest keys in the art of stretching.

Students at Ball State University are declining to get flu shots. Last year, the University claims it had a pretty intense flu season, which they termed a "flu epidemic," but that hasn't sent a rush of students to the flu shot nurse.

Ball State University wants to believe it is just "youth" causing a great portion of their students to refuse the flu shot, but that might not be the entire case. While the University does it's best to paint a picture of the young and naive, many students are just saying it flat out makes them sick.
