Medical Health News

We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

Friday the 13th might be unlucky for some, but who cares if your luck's in the very next day - Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day could mean expensive dinners, pricey roses and bittersweet chocolates, but chiropractors warn it can also mean injury.

Yesterday many US newspapers carried front-page stories on the severity of influenza so far this season. The New York Times story began with "It is not your imagination - more people you know are sick this winter, even people who have had flu shots."

Is this really a bad flu season? Before we answer that question, I would like to complain about what the Times wrote: 'more people you know are sick this winter, even people who have had flu shots". A similar sentiment appeared in a recent Forbes column "Influenza-like-illness is sweeping the country with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reporting that most areas of the country experiencing high rates. I should know, my family is in the midst of it despite having been vaccinated." Remember that having a respiratory illness does not mean that you have influenza - it could be caused by a number of other viruses which of course would not be blocked by influenza vaccine. Furthermore, the influenza vaccine is not 100% effective - it's about 60-70% effective in individuals younger than 65 years.

Last Month, President Barack Obama revealed plans to import tens of thousands of Syrian immigrants - some who could conceivably be terrorists in disguise - into the United States.

Today, we have obtained a document from the State Department that lists the 180 resettlement centers where these refugees are headed. When refugees arrive in the United States, they stay at these centers until they are able to acquire work, housing, etc., all of which are funded by American taxpayers.

More of the same. A LOT more of the same. In fact, every negative aspect of the Bush Administration has come back with a vengeance in the presidency of Barack H. Obama.

The election of President Obama was in no small part, a referendum on the administration of George W. Bush, and his victory was interpreted as a sound rebuke to eight years of open ended warfare, a vast and growing police state, the destruction of civil liberties, disregard for the Constitution, unchecked executive power, lies and broken promises, hypocrisy and arrogance, a lack of transparency in government, out-of-control federal spending, fever-pitch fearmongering, rampant corruption, and some really stupid gaffes. But what have we gotten instead?

In the ongoing debate over the meaning of "that," John O'Sullivan points out the president's genuinely statist logic.

The much-mocked "Life of Julia" ad also assumes that most of its main character's achievements in life are due to government. It's one thing to say that there is a government role, or that we are all products of an environment larger than ourselves. What Obama and Elizabeth Warren are saying goes well beyond that.

Barack Obama stepped in it with his "you didn't build that" speech, the subject of my column last week. But now people are claiming that he was taken out of context.

One popular reinterpretation is that when Obama says "you didn't build that" he is not referring to the small business he just talked about but the roads and bridges mentioned in the previous sentence. Far from being the obvious antecedent his supporters insist it is, this version would require him to misspeak. But it was the spoken word, not a carefully finished piece of writing. And it isn't quite as absurd as entrepreneurship trutherism. The first problem with this is that it remains an unpersuasive argument. Small business owners pay taxes that help build the roads and bridges just like everyone else. And while everyone benefits from the roads and bridges, not everyone builds small businesses.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi -- the speaker of the House when Obamacare was passed -- has an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune highlighting her constitutional confusion.

Thinking she has spotted Republican inconsistency, she raps jurisdiction stripping (or "court stripping," as she calls it) while also hinting the Supreme Court shouldn't overturn the federal health care law. Nowhere in her column does Pelosi actually grapple with two issues: the fact that Article III, giving Congress the power to regulate the jurisdiction of federal courts, is actually in the Constitution; she does not identify the constitutionally enumerated power that gives federal government the authority mandate the purchase of health insurance or otherwise implement Obamacare. (Pelosi is also oddly silent on the jurisdiction-stripping in federal laws designed to combat terrorism and restrict habeus corpus appeals in death penalty cases.)

Why the Obama legal team struggled at the Supreme Court.

After three days of arguments before the Supreme Court, the Obama administration and its supporters have been found in contempt. Not of the court, but of the Constitution.

Reports indicate that five of the nine Supreme Court justices seemed skeptical of the individual mandate's constitutionality and analysts across the political spectrum concluded that the Obama legal team lost this round.
