"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
                                             -- George Washington

"If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid.

We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GATT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the cabinet departments, most of the agencies, and most of the budget."

Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom by Dr. Ron Paul

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens' lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons."
                                             -- Congressman Ron Paul

End the Fed by Dr. Ron Paul

"The government is best which governs least."
                                                       -- Thomas Jefferson

A while back, I saw a photo on Pinterest that said, Stop doing things for your children that they can do for themselves. With it was a picture of a girl having her hair and teeth brushed by her mom.

Being the naturally insecure, everything I do is probably wrong woman that I am, I shuddered a little. I brush my ten year old's hair. Like, almost every night. She can do it herself, but often times she brings me her brush and asks me to. At bedtime, she'll hop on my bed, or I'll hop on hers, and I'll brush out the knots out while we chat and giggle.

An attorney for three Spanish-speaking children who were placed with a foster family that did not speak their language - and that allegedly sexually abused and beat them -- has filed a $12.2 million lawsuit against the state of Oregon.

The suit makes the unusual allegation that a language barrier caused the three siblings to suffer such profound isolation that they developed attachment disorder. The children -- who are now ages 7, 8 and 9 -- were placed in the Gresham foster home in 2013 and lived there for eight months, said Portland attorney David Paul, who is representing the children. The children were rarely spoken to and they didn't understand the conversations carried on in English around them, he said.

By the numbers, welfare reform was a success. More than 13 million people received cash assistance from the government in 1995, before the law was passed. Today, just 3 million do.

"Simply put, welfare reform worked because we all worked together," Bill Clinton, who signed into law welfare reform, or the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, wrote in an op-ed in The New York Times in 2006. Clinton had campaigned on a pledge to "end welfare as we know it" and today it is all too apparent that he succeeded.

There are kids in our community falling through the cracks. The foster care system is overloaded. They have no home, no voice.

But a group of women in our area are trying to change that - and want you to think about getting involved. RJ Puckett delights in the little things. He loves his job at Special Treasures - a Goodwill type store in Iredell County that raises money for kids who have been or are still in foster care.

Non-religious families often find it difficult to educate their children without relying on conservative Christian curricula and communities.

Today, there are more than 1.7 million homeschooled kids in the U.S., roughly double the number of those at the turn of 21st century. Religious families, nearly exclusively Christians, make up more than two-thirds of them, and religious curricula and social groups dominate the community. In states where homeschoolers are required to be part of a larger "umbrella school" to meet government learning standards, those networks are frequently organized by churches.

In a battle to halt government sponsored wide-scale climate modification, also known as 'solar radiation management,' two Rhode Island legislators have introduced a bill that seeks to stop geoengineering in the state.

The two representatives, Karen MacBeth (Dem), and Justin Price (Rep), have teamed up in a bi-partisan effort to pass "The Climate GeoEngineering Act of 2016", a bill that would help the state of Rhode Island monitor this largely secretive program, potentially revealing more information to the public about geoengineering projects happening around the United States.
