Whether you are a libertarian, conservative, NRA member or simply a citizen concerned with today's political climate, you will find news items of interest and relevance on Reliable Answers "Politics in the News."

What message are our legislators sending to voters, when they publicly admit they haven't done their job? How many bills are passed each year that policymakers haven't even bothered to read? This is disgraceful. This is called dereliction of duties and we must demand a stop to this practice.

There is no charity walk to raise awareness about the 700 to 800 women that die each year during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth in the U.S. There are no dedicated colored-plastic wristbands.

Whereas 7.2 women died per 100,000 births in 1987, that number swelled to 17.8 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2009 and 2011. The uptick occurred even as maternal mortality dropped in less-developed settings around the world. Now women giving birth in the U.S. are at a higher risk of dying than those giving birth in China or Saudi Arabia. The reason for this disturbing trend has eluded researchers, however.

Congress is poised to force Facebook and other social media networks to inform on users they believe might be engaged in "online terrorist activity."

Last week Dianne Feinstein, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee along with the committee's chairman Richard Burr, introduced the "Requiring Reporting of Online Terrorist Activity Act". The proposed law is modeled after an existing law requiring companies to report child pornography.

Victories are to be celebrated and for the future of healthy life on our planet we all can celebrate a beautiful victory. The world's largest nation, has formally declared all commercial planting of Genetically Modified Organisms, GMOs, to be prohibited.

The issue has been subject of a heated debate for some months inside Russia. In February 2014, just days prior to the US-orchestrated coup d'etat in Ukraine, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev created a national research project to obtain scientific information so the Government and Duma might make a decision on GMOs in Russia. Now a definitive decision has been made, and it goes against Monsanto and the US-led GMO cartel. We can say Russia's crisis has concentrated minds on the essentials of life.

A Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice sent by the Walt Disney Company earlier this week seems to have truly awakened The Force, and now the company can't seem to decide if it wants to be on the light side or the dark side.

Marjorie and Arnie Carvalho run Star Wars Action News, a podcast about Star Wars collectibles. Earlier this week, SW Action News staffer Justin Kozisek purchased an action figure of "Rey" in an Iowa Walmart. The figure, which hasn't been seen elsewhere, was presumably put on the shelves by accident ahead of its official release date. An image of the figure was posted on the SW Action News Facebook page-and promptly subjected to a wave of DMCA takedown demands by Lucasfilm. Many of those who had spread the image on social media were also subject to copyright claims.

Fukushima nuclear power plant is still experiencing major contamination issues nearly five years after the earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent meltdown.

Cesium has been linked to thyroid cancer, which is on the increase in the Fukushima area since the tsunami, according to the US National Library of Medicine. The chemical is highly soluble in water and can find its way into foodstuffs that have been prepared in contaminated areas. Anti-nuclear activist Dr Helen Caldicott said during the crisis that if unit four collapsed, she was going to move her family from Boston to the southern hemisphere. (You must watch her video.)

Two Star Wars superfans received a slew of takedown notices via Facebook and Twitter earlier this week after posting a photo of one of the franchise's new action figures online.

The film, coming out next week, is big business for Disney, so lawyers have been working overtime to protect intellectual property rights. Star Wars enthusiasts and podcast producers Justin Kozisek and Marjorie Carvalho legally purchased Rey, a new female character, for less than $10 in an Iowa Walmart.

This week my TV show is on gun control. I interviewed activist Leah Barrett, who wants stricter gun laws. I pointed out that after most states loosened gun laws to let people carry guns, 29 peer-reviewed studies examined the effect.

Eighteen found less crime, 10 found no difference and only one found an increase. "Which studies?" Barrett snapped. "John Lott's? His research has been totally discredited." "Discredited" is a word the anti-gun activists use a lot. It's as if they speak from the same playbook. "Lott is a widely discredited ideologue," said a spokeswoman for Everytown-a Bloomberg-funded gun control group.

The media widely proclaimed the NSA's bulk data collection of Americans dead as of last night. Here's the part of the story they forgot to mention.

Sunday marked the end of the NSA's highly contentious bulk data collection program, as widely reported by corporate media outlets. But for all intents and purposes, as the USA Freedom Act kicked off in its place on Sunday, this termination was a purely hollow, symbolic gesture. As Edward Snowden revealed two years ago, the National Security Agency implemented a program to vacuum up the metadata of essentially all domestic communications in the U.S. by liberally interpreting controversial provisions in the USA Patriot Act - which federal courts have since found unconstitutional. Under the transparent guise of fighting terrorism, the NSA argued in court its justification for casting such a broad net; but after an earlier reversal, District Court Judge Richard Leon ripped into the program in an epicly caustic ruling in favor of civilians.

The Immigration and Nationality Act passed June 27, 1952 revised the laws relating to immigration, naturalization, and nationality for the United States.

That act, which became Public Law 414, established both the law and the intent of Congress regarding the immigration of Aliens to the US and remains in effect today. Among the many issues it covers, one in particular, found in Chapter 2 Section 212, is the prohibition of entry to the US if the Alien belongs to an organization seeking to overthrow the government of the United States by "force, violence, or other unconstitutional means."

Most people live in a Truman Show bubble of false reality, played out for them by the mainstream media and tightly controlled by the internet's gatekeepers such as Youtube and Google.

To prevent you from learning the truth about what's really happening with the wave of refugees and ISIS terrorists in Europe, YouTube has been desperately and rapidly censoring every instance of a must-see video entitled "With Open Gates - The forced collective suicide of European nations." This shocking, eye-opening video is an absolute MUST SEE for every citizen on our planet. It unveils the shocking, horrifying truth of how European nations are now being overrun by an invasion of refugees who intend to overrun western civilization and destroy Europe as we know it today.
