Politics in the News

Whether you are a libertarian, conservative, NRA member or simply a citizen concerned with today's political climate, you will find news items of interest and relevance on Reliable Answers "Politics in the News."

What message are our legislators sending to voters, when they publicly admit they haven't done their job? How many bills are passed each year that policymakers haven't even bothered to read? This is disgraceful. This is called dereliction of duties and we must demand a stop to this practice.

The Gallup Organization

by Lydia Saad

June 15, 2009

Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal.

This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s.

One of President Obama's radical eco-bureaucrats has apologized for confirming an indelible truth: This White House treats politically incorrect private industries as public enemies who deserve regulatory death sentences.

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Al Armendariz, an avowed greenie on leave from Southern Methodist University, gave a little-noticed speech in 2010 outlining his sadistic philosophy. "I was in a meeting once, and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I'll go ahead and tell you what I said," he began. In a video obtained and released by Sen. James Inhofe (R., Okla.), Armendariz then shared his bloody analogy...

As I've watched the video footage of protesters attempting to "Occupy Wall Street" and, now, "Occupy Boston," I've been struck again and again by this realization: They're my age.

So excuse me if I find it hard not to dismiss the movement as born of inexperience and misguided idealism. The romantic impulse to be an outcast, an individual facing outstanding and institutionalized obstacles is one I have to tamp down in myself sometimes; I think it comes with the territory of being in your 20s. Most of the protesters seem like Brita from the TV show, Community - terrified they'll be consigned to a life of meaninglessness if they ever stop "raging against the Machine."

As the FT reports today, the EU is still demanding that it's not fair that the U.S. not do the same harm to ourselves that they did to themselves, and can't undo.

Only they've tweaked their rationale slightly for why we should hobble ourselves and, effectively, commit to buying their stuff to bail out their bubble industries (see those billions in 'stimulus' money going to Iberdrola et al.). That whole end is nigh business is just so pre-ClimateGate. Now it is that we will fall behind economically if we don't.

While it is unclear if this is explicitly a Common Core assignment or not, a group of students today in Tupelo, MS had quite an interesting assignment.

The sixth graders at Milam Elementary were given an assignment to do in class, and they were not to discuss this assignment with their parents. Naturally, telling a group of kids between the ages of ten and eleven to not tell their parents about an assignment is probably the surest way for them to tell their parents. In fact, it is typically a way to ensure a student sneaks a copy home. The reason why this is so concerning is that Tupelo prides itself on data driven instruction. Now, data is nice if it helps you figure out if a student needs extra help in a particular area. However, what if that effort is aimed at monitoring the political views of a student?

Apparently there are not enough chemicals already added to our drinking water, as there is now a call by “experts” to further poison our water supplies by adding Lithium. Their main reason is to decrease suicide and violent crime rates.

So is this how we wish to function as a society? Instead of dealing with our issues at hand, let’s drug ourselves so that we don’t have to deal with personal subjects that may be perceived as hard, negative or scary. This is not a time for putting our heads in the sand and pretending or even hoping that an issue will just resolve itself. Where is the personal growth in that? Don’t you feel elated when you resolve a personal issue that no longer hangs over your head or weights on your mind? It is more important than ever to clear ourselves of past issues that we have held onto and allow more room for the new energies coming to earth to take its place within our being.

In late May 2014, President Obama rolled out his foreign policy initiatives at West Point and said nothing new.

Every lie he uttered is just a retread cover for the same old, same old disastrous foreign policy the US has engaged in since the cold war began shortly after World War II. The fact is Washington has been regularly practicing this same modus operandi for over sixty years. Through constant use of false flags deceptively blaming the designated enemy of the United States, starting with the dual threat of the Soviet Union and China's spreading Communism in the early 1950's, then in this century fabricating the al Qaeda enemy's spreading terrorism and now back to a revitalized cold war stopping the expansionist spread of Russia and China again, the US has been busily justifying its aggressive interventionist policy throughout the world.

Fast and Furious was an operation so cloak-and-dagger Mexican authorities weren't even notified that thousands of semi-automatic firearms were being sold to people in Arizona thought to have links to Mexican drug cartels.

According to ATF whistleblowers, in 2009 the U.S. government began instructing gun storeowners to break the law by selling firearms to suspected criminals. ATF agents then, again according to testimony by ATF agents turned whistleblowers, were ordered not to intercept the smugglers but rather to let the guns "walk" across the U.S.-Mexican border and into the hands of Mexican drug-trafficking organizations.

There has been a lot in the news the last two days about Joanne Deborah Chesimard who is the first woman ever placed on the "FBI Most Wanted Terrorists" list.

Joanne's connections with the Weather Underground and Obama mentor Bill Ayers have been much publicized. Rather than beat that story into the ground I thought I would take a moment to make a point that fails to be made often enough. With all the constant rhetoric about the dangers of the American Patriot and right-wing-Christian terrorists, the facts still remain. The current list of "FBI Most Wanted Terrorists" contains 32 people. 30 of those people are Muslims and two are left-wing liberals. In addition to Chesimard, Daniel Andreas San Diego is the other non-Muslim on the list. Who is San Diego?

Yawn. Liberal journalists in the tank for Obama are claiming that conservatives are "outraged" and "enraged" by Hollywood femme Lena Dunham's campaign ad comparing her "first time" voting for Obama with losing her virginity.

You can watch the video and see all the starlets a-Twitter over the ad here. Doug Powers weighed in last night. I'm not "outraged." I'm bored. These privileged young Democrat celebs haven't stopped yapping and giggling about birth control and their swoon-worthy birth control supplier in the White House all year. Zzzzzzzzzzz. They've demanded RESPECT! and wheedled about the "war on women" while dressed as giant VAGINAS!
