What message are our legislators sending to voters, when they publicly admit they haven't done their job? How many bills are passed each year that policymakers haven't even bothered to read? This is disgraceful. This is called dereliction of duties and we must demand a stop to this practice.

A New York judge who says a police officer struck him after apparently mistaking him for a heckler is blasting Queens District Attorney Richard Brown for refusing to prosecute.

Judge Thomas Raffaele claims Brown is orchestrating a cover-up, the New York Law Journal reports. A press release explaining the refusal to prosecute is full of falsehoods, Raffaele told the publication. "Everything they say is a lie." Raffaele has said the incident occurred on June 1 when a crowd had gathered as officers were making an arrest. One officer was ramming his knee into the back of a screaming handcuffed man, and the crowd was jeering, according to Raffaele's account. One officer appeared to be getting angry, and he ran toward the crowd and began hitting people, Raffaele said. Raffaele said he was the first one hit in "a full-force, open-hand blow to the front of my throat."

In Arizona's 15th congressional district, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending.

At least that's what the Web site set up by the Obama administration to track the $787 billion stimulus says. There's one problem, though: There is no 15th congressional district in Arizona; the state has only eight districts.

Posting its results late this afternoon at Recovery.gov, the White House claimed 640,329 jobs have been created or saved because of the $159 billion in stimulus funds allocated as of Sept. 30.

The White House argues that the actual job number is actually closer to 1 million jobs when one factors in stimulus jobs added in October. So let's see. Assuming their number is right -- 160 billion divided by 1 million. Does that mean the stimulus costs taxpayers $160,000 per job?

Several states with high unemployment rates are outsourcing their food stamp services to call centers in India, angering many residents.

Americans have never liked the idea of jobs going overseas. But for many, it's more offensive when taxpayer dollars -- including those in the federal stimulus plan -- go to create those jobs. And when those jobs deal with food stamps, unemployment insurance and other public benefits, well forgot irony, to many it's just downright plain insulting.

A foster couple is accused of taking in thousands of dollars meant for child care and spending it on themselves.

They are also accused of trying to collect more money after the children had left their care. Over the past six years, Purcell and Laverne Johnson were trusted with taking care of nearly 90 foster children in their Riverside County foster home. For that, they were paid a salary of $144,000 a year.

Hundreds of protestors filled the plaza of the Thompson Center. They represent the thousands of social service providers who face cuts if legislators don't approve funding to continue services.

"If they kill the daycare we are in trouble. We are really in trouble because that means we may have to look back and give them back to the people because I can't afford to take care of the household by myself," said Brian Krizer, foster parent. Another ripple effect of budget cuts is that social services would be affected and jobs would also be lost.

The landmark trial of a South West farmer accused of contaminating his neighbour's crops with genetically modified canola has wrapped up in the Supreme Court. Organic farmer Steve Marsh is suing his neighbor Michael Baxter for $85,000 in damages.

Mr Marsh claims the contamination caused him to lose his organic certification on more than half his property for almost three years. In the Supreme Court today, Mr Marsh's lawyers argued Michael Baxter showed negligence because he could reasonably have foreseen the risks of the seeds being spread by swathing his crops.
