Politics in the News

Whether you are a libertarian, conservative, NRA member or simply a citizen concerned with today's political climate, you will find news items of interest and relevance on Reliable Answers "Politics in the News."

What message are our legislators sending to voters, when they publicly admit they haven't done their job? How many bills are passed each year that policymakers haven't even bothered to read? This is disgraceful. This is called dereliction of duties and we must demand a stop to this practice.

In case you don't know what Cavuto's referencing, here's what happens to a left-wing cable network when news is slow...

Per Cavuto, turns out that horse-riding can in fact be therapeutic for people with MS. But never mind that. Why would O'Donnell even think to challenge Romney's wife on that? Even if she was the only MS sufferer in the world who finds strength in dressage, what reason is there to doubt her? Does he think she'd lie about her illness as some sort of cover story to justify a hobby that's a little too snooty even for the expensive tastes of a millionaire like Scary Larry?

It would be naive to say that what Senator Rand Paul did four twelve hours, fifty-two minutes and eleven seconds from Wednesday into the first hour of Thursday morning did nothing to resonate with leftist groups and once mainstream Republicans.

From the time Sen. Paul took the floor until the time he finished his statements and yielded his time, old-school Republicans were itching to fire back. One major feature to Sen. Paul's filibuster delivery was the drive by social media, which turned the Kentucky Senator into a household name for nearly forty-eight hours. The Twitter trends echoed "#StandWithRand" and "#Filibuster" for over a day, bringing in thousands of discouraged Americans, those who believe the direction of this country is in need of a U-turn. Sen. Paul's actions also prompted those disengaged with the Republican Party to rekindle new hopes.

From a story in today's Wash Post titled, "Libertarians Flex Their Muscle in the GOP"...

Libertarianism once again appears to be on the rise, particularly among the young. But its alliance with the Republican establishment is fraying, as demonstrated by the increasingly personal war of words between two leading potential 2016 presidential contenders.... The "once again" is appreciated, though any honest appraisal of partisan politics would acknowledge that libertarianism has been the next big thing for going on 45 years, when the future editor of Wired magazine, Louis Rossetto and his college pal Stan Lehr published "The New Right Credo: Libertarianism" in the January 10, 1971 issue of The New York Times Magazine.

John Boehner, calling it like it is.

At the same time that the president took to the podium to chastise members of Congress for purportedly putting politics before country, the House Speaker expressed his own frustration with the president's unwillingness to actually negotiate...

Payroll tax extension, how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.

Why do politicians continue to debate this patently poor policy as though it represents the pinnacle of politically savvy middle-class tax cuts? It's not even technically a tax cut - just a premature borrowing from our own retirement safety net, which happens to be in dire straits anyway.

Maryanne Godboldo, a mother in Michigan, noticed that pills prescribed by her daughter's doctor were making her condition worse, not better. So Mrs. Godboldo stopped giving them to her. That's when the trouble began.

When Child Protective Services (CPS) bureaucrats became aware that the girl was not receiving her prescribed medication, they decided the child should be taken away from her mother's custody on grounds of medical neglect. When Ms. Godboldo refused to surrender her daughter to the state, CPS enlisted the help of a police SWAT team! On March 24 of this year a 12 hour standoff ensued and young Ariana was taken into custody.
