Microsoft Visual Basic Samples/Downloads

A searchable index of downloadable Visual Basic samples from Microsoft

Now, there are a *lot* of links on this list - but this is *not* the only thing on this site - in fact, it's the least of the content. Be sure to check out my Visual Basic Samples, Visual Basic Links (the *long* list), and Active Server Pages Links.

And if that's not enough, there's also a rather large collection of other resources here.

Today, we're releasing our December set of security updates. As we do every month, we're providing a heads-up on what's coming in this month's release as well as offering links to more information so you can plan your deployment. However, since this is the last set of regular monthly security updates this year, I thought I'd take a minute to look back at some of the discoveries the MSRC made in the process of issuing the year's bulletins.

Microsoft announced last week that it has started shipping its new IIS Express 7.5 Web server for free. It is shipped as part of the January Web Release, which also includes ASP.NET, MVC3, WebMatrix, NuGet and Orchard.

"We think IIS Express combines the ease of use of the ASP.Net Web Server (aka Cassini) currently built-into Visual Studio today with the full power of IIS," Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president in the Microsoft Developer Divison said in a blog post. Guthrie says Microsoft's IIS Express 7.5 is optimized for developer scenarios and is compatible with both ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC project types.

Among yesterday's optional software updates from Microsoft was Update for Windows XP/Vista/non-Windows 7.

It's an "important, non-security update" that restricts "AutoRun entries in the AutoPlay dialog to only CD and DVD drives". Excellent. This could really help curb AutoRun worms. If you're using an older Windows computer, we highly recommend you go and apply this optional update.
