Over the weekend a detailed report in the Washington Post caught the U.S. government in more lies about the scope of it's dragnet surveillance programs.

The Post showed that the NSA intercepted communications from ordinary people 9 times more often than from "targets" suspected of any wrongdoing. People are outraged. And we should be. Any politician that plans to keep their job should be doing everything they can to put an end to these illegal and unethical surveillance practices. Infuriatingly, *tomorrow* the Senate Intelligence Committee is rushing to advance "CISA," a bill that would give the NSA more access to our data than ever before, and give companies like Facebook and Google legal immunity for violating our privacy.

Using the broad powers granted under the USA PATRIOT Act, the FBI demanded that 4 librarians produce private information about library patrons' reading habits, then used an endless gag order to force them to remain silent about the request for the rest of their lives under penalty of prison time. In July 2005, two FBI agents came to the office of the Library Connection, located in Windsor, Connecticut. The Library Connection is a nonprofit co-op of library databases that arranges record-sharing between 27 different libraries. It facilitates book rental tracking and other services.

Though parents around the world have the same goals, American parents like me (despite our very best intentions) have gotten it all backwards.

We need to let 3-year-olds climb trees and 5-year-olds use knives. Imagine my surprise when I came across a kindergartener in the German forest whittling away on a stick with a penknife. His teacher, Wolfgang, lightheartedly dismissed my concern: "No one's ever lost a finger!" Similarly, Brittany, an American mom, was stunned when she moved her young family to Sweden and saw 3- and 4-year-olds with no adult supervision bicycling down the street, climbing the roofs of playhouses and scaling tall trees with no adult supervision.

The Google purge has begun in Europe. After Europe's top court ruled that people have the "right to be forgotten" and have information that embarrasses them (with no regard for factual accuracy) removed from searches, The Guardian reported that six of their stories are no longer easily findable from people living in Europe.

The following images are scanned copies of pleadings wherein a United States Attorney and a United States Department of Justice Trial Attorney, Tax Division, deny that Internal Revenue Service is an agency of the United States Government.

See specifically page 2 of pleadings, item no. 4. The allegation by Diversified Metal Products, Inc., Plaintiff, for item number 4 reads, "Defendant Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is an agency of the United States government which has presented to Plaintiff a lien against monies to which Defendant Steve Morgan, or persumably[sic] Defendant T-Bow Company Trust for him, may be entitled."

Previously undisclosed files leaked to the media by former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden now show that the United States National Security Agency has been authorized to spy on persons in all but four countries.

The Washington Post published on Monday official documents provided by Mr. Snowden that shows new proof concerning the extent of the NSA's vast surveillance apparatus. One of the documents-a file marked "top secret" from 2010 and approved by the US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court-shows that the NSA has been authorized to conduct surveillance on 193 foreign government, as well as various factions and organizations around the world, including the International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency. "Virtually no foreign government is off-limits for the National Security Agency, which has been authorized to intercept information from individuals 'concerning' all but four countries on Earth, according to top-secret documents," journalists Ellen Nakashima and Barton Gellman wrote for the Post.

Police should react similar to firemen and never leave the building until it is time to investigate a crime that has been committed against a person or property.

Americans have been brainwashed into believing cars will crash and citizens will murder each other if there were no police presence. This simply is not true. People do not, not kill people because cops are present. In other words, you are not, not being raped at this moment simply because police are on every corner...In fact, police catch less than 1 percent of all violent crimes in the act. Unlike the U.S., where it's common to spot twenty five police in a one hundred mile trip, there are thousands of populated areas abroad that have no police presence yet they experience less crime and fewer traffic accidents. I've personally lived in a few of these places. The U.S.A. has the largest prison population in the history of mankind. The United States has 5% of the world's population yet incarcerates 25% of the world's prisoners.

This fall, new federal regulations are set to go into effect which will prohibit schools from allowing sweets and homemade items to be sold at bake sales.

For decades, underfunded programs within schools have relied on bake sales to raise money. Traditionally, popular items like homemade cupcakes, cookies, and other sweets have generated heaps of revenue, funding school clubs, sports teams' uniforms, and other academic essentials. However, The Wall Street Journal is reporting on new federal regulations, set to take effect this fall in many US states, that would so seriously limit bake sales as to render them ineffective, unprofitable, and pointless in most cases.

CT School District Apologizes For Blocking Conservative Websites

On the website of Connecticut's Regional School District 14 is a commendable, but somewhat out-of-context, commitment to relative Internet freedom for public school students, dated June 20.

"Regional School District 14 takes the position that while it is obviously critical to block specific categories of websites as required by law (e.g., pornography, etc.), the blocking of otherwise appropriate websites, regardless of political or religious viewpoints, is WRONG." The statement goes on to note that "On Region 14's computers, some websites were blocked, while others were not," and it was all a big technical error.

Imagine the very worst home a child could grow up in: No food in the fridge, parents strung out on drugs, the children covered with scabs and beaten regularly. You would want someone to step in and save the kids.

And then there's Scotland. Scotland wants to treat all families as potentially abusive and appoint a "named person" (that is, a guardian) as soon as the child is born and up through age 18 to oversee the parenting. This "shadow parent" would be empowered by the government under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act, which will take effect in 2016.
