In August of last year, 21.6 million acres of the Gulf of Mexico were auctioned off to the dirty energy industry so that they could expand their offshore fracking activities.

As DeSmog's Steve Horn reported at that time, many of the leases sold by the government in August were located in the Lower Tertiary Basin, an area defined by hard-to-penetrate rock where the crude is located in deep water, making the practice of hydraulic fracturing exceptionally risky and prone to environmental disaster. It wasn't until the lease sale that the media - and the American public - became painfully aware of the fact that we know so little about what the industry is actually doing in the Gulf of Mexico. It was this lack of knowledge that led the Center for Biological Diversity to file a lawsuit against the government to compel them to release that info.

The House of Representatives had its day in court today after filing a lawsuit against the Obama administration for making unilateral changes to Obamacare.

Lawyers representing the Obama administration and the House of Representatives gathered today before U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer for the first hearing in a lawsuit challenging President Obama's changes to the health care law-namely his delay of the employer mandate and the authorization of payments from the Treasury Department to insurance providers.

The Senate struggled to prevent an interruption in critical government surveillance programs early Saturday, rejecting both a House-passed bill and a short-term extension of the USA Patriot Act.

The White House has pressured the Senate to back the House bill, which would end the National Security Agency's bulk collection of domestic phone records. Instead, the records would remain with telephone companies subject to a case-by-case review. The vote was 57-42, short of the 60-vote threshold to move ahead.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently settled a suit filed by parents of two children who Sheriff's deputies kidnapped with no warrant. The settlement reached a mutually-agreed upon $800,000 to be paid to the parents in question, who said their civil rights had been violated. The lawsuit claimed that the children were wrongfully removed from their San Gabriel Valley home, some four years ago. The police had no warrant to take the children, but they were nevertheless kept by the state for four months.

A shocking new video blows the Obama Administration's covert plans to bus hundreds of illegal Muslim Somali's into California and other states to "resettle".

According to the DHS, all that any of the African refugees must do is find a border agent and say "I am in danger in my home country, and want asylum in the United States." Once they utter those words, they are off limits to deportation and are turned over to DHS resettlement specialists who help them move into communities across the country.

The Senate today is holding a key procedural vote that would allow the Trans-Pacific Partnership to be "fast-tracked."

So who can read the text of the TPP? Not you, it's classified. Even members of Congress can only look at it one section at a time in the Capitol's basement, without most of their staff or the ability to keep notes. But there's an exception: if you're part of one of 28 U.S. government-appointed trade advisory committees providing advice to the U.S. negotiators. The committees with the most access to what's going on in the negotiations are 16 "Industry Trade Advisory Committees," whose members include AT&T, General Electric, Apple, Dow Chemical, Nike, Walmart and the American Petroleum Institute.

It must have been shame that drove doctors at a California hospital to hide the body of an infant who had suddenly died after receiving eight simultaneous vaccinations. The parents were never allowed to see the body of their son before he was cremated.

Even after a year and four months had gone by, the official autopsy had not been revealed. Their son, Matthew, had been given DTaP, IPV, Hib, PCV, Hep B and Hep A in three shots, one in the right arm and two in the left leg, just a day before his sudden death.
