A judge struck down tenure and other job protections for California's public school teachers as unconstitutional Tuesday, saying such laws harm, especially poor and minority ones, by saddling them with bad teachers who are almost impossible to fire.

"I'm really glad that the judge has done that," said Carolyn Riolo, a grandparent who supports the judge's decision. "You have to have good teachers to teach children, you know, how to be good adults." In a landmark decision that could influence the gathering debate over tenure across the country, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Rolf Treu cited the historic case of Brown v. Board of Education in ruling that students have a fundamental right to equal education.

The killing of two police officers and a third person by a couple in Las Vegas has led to renewed interest in demonizing right-wing ideologies based on the actions of isolated extremists.

It's also being used as evidence in favor of extending the "war on terror" to the domestic front, even though the paucity of both domestic and Islamist terrorism in the U.S. would suggest both can safely be treated as law enforcement issues. As different special interest groups throw out different numbers to push the narrative of an increasingly dangerous America that needs increasingly militarized law enforcement to protect it, here are two numbers to keep in mind:

In last night's Opening Statement, Judge Jeanine slammed President Barack Obama's decision to trade five Gitmo detainees for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, saying that Obama is not a true commander-in-chief and that his actions demand impeachment.

There is a sacred trust between a country and its leader, between a president and the people he leads. When a leader violates that trust, the people from whom he derives his power have the inalienable right to remove him. You may agree or disagree with what I'm about to say; it's not meant to be political. Whatever the context, when you let things slide - one after another - the foundation deteriorates. Even water sliding down a rock begins to wear at it and break it down. And like that rock, our very existence is in jeopardy. Barack Obama has put us in that jeopardy yet again.

Edward Snowden's recent revelation that the NSA can bug cell phones even when they are turned off left some experts split on whether it is true or not. But a group of hackers claim that at least there is a way to protect your phone from spies' ears.

Snowden, who exposed the American government's secret mass surveillance program, has been making headlines in the media for almost a year with shocking details about the scale of snooping by the National Security Agency (NSA). In last week's interview with NBC, the former CIA employee yet again added to the spreading privacy panic when he said the NSA can actually eavesdrop on cellphones even when they are turned off.

Four millions Americans will be hit with Obamacare's individual mandate tax in 2016 according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.

The report, titled Payments of Penalties for Being Uninsured Under the Affordable Care Act: 2014 Update, includes a gingerly-worded reminder that Americans will be liable for the tax as part of their annual tax-filing process: "Among the uninsured people subject to the penalty, many are expected to voluntarily report on their tax returns that they are uninsured and to pay the amount owed." The CBO data also show that the overwhelming majority of those liable for the tax are part of low-to-middle income households, a clear violation of President Obama's promise against "any form of tax increase" on Americans making less than $250,000 per year.

President Obama has had an up and down relationship with the Supreme Court. He publicly admonished them during his 2010 State of the Union address over their Citizens United decision, but sang their praises when they upheld Obamacare by ruling it a tax.

He may not like future rulings from the Court on Obamacare though, as they are considering the Hobby Lobby case regarding the abortion mandate provision of Obamacare and how it infringes on religious liberty. They may also soon be considering a Constitutional challenge of the healthcare law on the grounds that it violated the 'Origination Clause' by being introduced in the Senate instead of the House, where tax bills are required to begin. Obama doesn't have many fans on the Supreme Court either, with even his ultra-liberal nominees to the Court ruling against him at times. Justice Scalia has been especially critical of Obama, calling him a "self-interested President" and decrying his continuous power grabs.

MLK Jr. said, "One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws." But if NSA Leaker Edward Snowden came back from Russia, would he get a fair hearing? Does one man have the right to decide which laws he'll obey? Will you feel differently if your name's on the NSA snoop target list that Glenn Greenwald is about to release? PJTV's Michelle Fields talks with Austin Peterson, editor of LibertarianRepublic.com.

The National Security Agency is collecting millions of images of people through its international surveillance network to be implemented in a number of other facial recognition programs, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden.

Thanks to rapid advances being made in the field of facial recognition technology, the NSA is much better equipped to "exploit the flood of images included in emails, text messages, social media, video conferences and other communications," according to an article in the New York Times, co-written by Laura Poitras, who, together with Glen Greenwald, are the only two journalists to have received the leaked NSA documents. The NSA has the capacity to intercept "millions of images per day," as well as some 55,000 "facial recognition quality images." This latest milestone in US intelligence gathering, which goes a long way to putting the final touches on the much-feared Orwellian nightmare, gives the US spy agency "tremendous untapped potential," according to the 2011 documents.

Minnesotan gubernatorial candidate Chris Holbrook was exercising his 1st Amendment right on Thursday at Lake Calhoun park in Minnesota.

He was simply talking to people about liberty when he was approached by some true Minnesota jackboots destined to stomp out what little rights are left to Americans. "You guys need to contact the park board and get a permit," said the jackboot tyrant "You can't promote, you can't do any of that stuff without a permit." Apparently this power tripping cop's version of the Constitution that he swore an oath to, lacked the part about prohibiting any laws that abridge the freedom of speech.
