One thing we'll say about federal bailouts-if you pay attention, you can usually see them coming a mile away. It was true of Fannie Mae and General Motors, and it's increasingly clear that the next candidate will be the U.S. Postal Service.

This giveaway would be especially infuriating because postal workers already enjoy a 30% to 40% edge in pay and benefits over comparably skilled private workers, according to the Postal Service's own economic analysis. Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicate the average hourly compensation for postal union members is $41 versus $28 for private industry. Postal workers also contribute far less than private workers and even less than other federal workers to cover health-care costs.

We can see why a liberal group would tout such numbers, since -- if accurate -- they offer powerful counterevidence to the claims by conservatives that President Barack Obama has been a spendthrift who's set the nation on an unsustainable fiscal path.

But the reader who sent it to us was surprised to see the debt increase under Obama was so small. So we decided to check the numbers. The chart actually comes from a Flickr page belonging to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who posted it on May 5, 2011. Specifically, the chart tracks "percent increase in public debt" for the five presidents during the following time periods -- January 1981 to January 1989 (Reagan), January 1989 to January 1993 (George H.W. Bush), January 1993 to January 2001 (Clinton), January 2001 to January 2009 (George W. Bush), and January 2009 to April 2011 (Obama).

According to Fox News the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) will be an opt-in system that is designed to protect users from online fraud and identity theft.

It seems that the log-in would be made via a device, rather than a simple password - the folks behind NSTIC have said it could be done by smart card, cell phone, keychain fob or another type of device - or combinations of the above for those that want them. Gary Locke also explained that NSTIC aims to protect consumer privacy by allowing users to surf anonymously. He added that they had no plans to create a central database of information about NSTIC users. It is a bold plan to be sure but the Department of Commerce seems serious about it - they have already signed up a number of companies including Microsoft, IBM, the Secure ID Coalition and Wave Systems Corp. to build hardware, software and develop the standards that would make the plan possible. So am I the only person that threw up a little in his mouth when I read all of that? As I see it there are a number of problems here: first up if you give the government the keys to your online accounts and expect them not to snoop, then I suspect that you are a sap. They will snoop - they have done it before and they will do it again - why make it easier? Of course there is the worn out "if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear" line, but wouldn't you rather err on the side of caution.

ACLU seeks information on Michigan program that allows cops to download information from smart phones belonging to stopped motorists.

The Michigan State Police have a high-tech mobile forensics device that can be used to extract information from cell phones belonging to motorists stopped for minor traffic violations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan last Wednesday demanded that state officials stop stonewalling freedom of information requests for information on the program.

In this interview Dr. Maurice Hilleman reveals some astounding revelations. He admits that Merck drug company vaccines (Polio) had been deliberately contaminated with SV40, a cancer-causing monkey virus from 1953-1963.

For years, researchers suggested that millions of vials of polio vaccine, contaminated with SV40, infected individuals which caused human tumors, and by 1999, molecular evidence of SV40 infections were showing up in children born after 1982. Some experts now suggest the virus may have remained in the polio vaccine until as late as 1999. In 2002, the journal Lancet published compelling evidence that contaminated polio vaccine was responsible for up to half of the 55,000 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cases that were occurring each year. And there is the likelihood that there was an importing and spreading of the AIDS virus in the same manner, as revealed in the video. At first no one could fathom how the virus had been transmitted into the human population, but this shocking video proves that it was deliberately added to the vaccine by Dr. Maurice Hilleman, which was "good science" at that time. Just Who is Dr. Maurice Hilleman? Now, for those of you who may think Dr. Hilleman was just another crackpot (he passed away in 2005), think again. He was, and still is, the leading vaccine pioneer in the history of vaccines. He developed more than three dozen vaccines-more than any other scientist in history-and was the developer of Merck's vaccine program. He was a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society, and received a special lifetime achievement award from the World Health Organization. When he was chief of the Department of Respiratory Diseases with what's now the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, he discovered the genetic changes that occur when the influenza virus mutates, known as shift and drift. He was also one of the early vaccine pioneers to warn about the possibility that simian viruses might contaminate vaccines. So Dr. Hilleman knew what he was talking about. And in his own words, "vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th Century."

Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi issued a temporary restraining order blocking the state's new and contentious collective bargaining law from taking effect, dealing a major setback to Walker and throwing the fate of the law into limbo.

A Wisconsin judge on Friday did what 14 fugitive Senate Democrats and tens of thousands of protesters failed to do over three weeks: block Republican Gov. Scott Walker's plan to plug a $137 million state budget shortfall in part by limiting the collective bargaining power of unionized state employees.

Here's a nice clip that I'm going to call "Why I Drink." To get in the proper frame of mind for viewing, fetch yourself an alcoholic beverage and sip slowly while comparing the increase/decrease numbers in this new poll from Pew.

Not until we reach the last line do we find a plurality in favor of cutting spending, and even that's exceeded by the combined number who want to keep humanitarian aid the same or even increase it. No wonder Obama thinks a spending freeze is good enough: The public quite clearly agrees with him.

When I started talking about the "Popular Uprising" in Egypt being the work of Communists, some of them here in the good ole U.S.A. in fact, Chicago, Illinois and Washington D.C...

Does everybody here now understand how President Obama, a man known for is procrastination in making big decisions, was so lightning quick in throwing Hosni Mubarek under the bus?

Not everyone is happy. This tax issues blogger is downright disgusted.

This week the Senate repealed the burdensome 1099 provision from Obamacare. As you recall, it required reporting to vendors and the IRS any cumulative purchase or purchases over $600 per year. This was to be a nightmarish paperwork burden on small businesses and would likely have turned many of them into accidental tax scofflaws.
