Some prophetic voices believe the nation shifted, spiritually, Oct. 21, 2016, on what may go down as one of the most important days in American history.

Largely unnoticed, 1,000 Native American Indian tribes from the United States and Canada collectively forgave the U.S. government for breaking treaties with their ancestors during a public ceremony on the National Mall. The National Day of Prayer for First Nations, held near the Washington Monument, included intercessory petitions, proclamations and declarations of forgiveness by leaders from All Tribes D.C., a fellowship of Christians representing 1,000 American Indians from the U.S. and Canada.

Since I wrote this little blog post the other day, picked up at Real Clear Politics, all of a sudden (by coincidence; I'm not claiming I had anything to do with it, but just am remarking on how rapidly the 'meme' has taken off) all sorts of people are suddenly realizing that Mitt Romney is hardly the candidate with the best chance to beat Barack Obama.

The Republican Party has become bipolar.

This is the only logical conclusion to draw after reviewing its treatment of the swelling ranks of Ron Paul supporters who have long been dismissed as insignificant, yet who are now being courted by commentators hoping to prevent another Ross Perot-like split vote in November's general election. Throughout this presidential campaign cycle, media pundits and competing candidates have been quick to label Ron Paul and his supporters as unrepresentative of the GOP. "I don't think Ron Paul represents the mainstream," said Mitt Romney just days before the Iowa caucus in January. "I'm working harder than anyone to make sure he's not the nominee."

Ron Paul and Rick Santorum supporters haven't always agreed on everything. Paul supporters have criticized Santorum for his support for legislation like Medicare Plan D and No Child Left Behind.

Santorum supporters have criticized Paul for his foreign policy views and some of his other positions. But Paul's supporters and Santorum's supporters have always agreed that conservatives must be represented - and strongly - within the Republican Party, and that supporting Mitt Romney isn't the way to ensure that happens. With Santorum out of the race, his supporters should consider supporting Paul's candidacy. There's no doubt that many Santorum supporters are not entirely comfortable with Paul's voting record, just as many of them weren't comfortable with Santorum's - especially Santorum's record on spending issues. But Paul is far more conservative than Romney. Santorum supporters can help advance conservatism by standing with him.

The consistently principled Glenn Greenwald recently broke the story that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been secretly collecting phone records of millions of U.S. Verizon customers daily.

Unsurprisingly, the usual Big Brother apologists chimed in with the rebuttal, "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about." Ah, yes. Civil libertarians are used to hearing the nothing-to-hide argument from people who are willing to trade privacy for security, or a false sense of it, anyway. When American citizens strongly opposed the Patriot Act that allows the government to wiretap phone lines without a warrant, we were told: "No secrets? No worries." When we criticized the warrantless house-to-house raids in Boston following the Marathon bombing, we were told: "If you're not housing the terrorists, what's the big deal?" Here's the big deal...

Add this to your list of ways that the #Occupy movement is treated differently than the tea party...

An Ohio tattoo artist named Joshua Fellows was arrested during Occupy Wall Street's late November's "Day of Action" for possession of an unlicensed gun and 32 rounds of ammunition that were in his truck that he recklessly drove around New York City, toting dozens of members of the #Occupy movement. Mr. Fellows also had a domestic violence restraining order against him, which prohibited him from possessing any weapons. Fellows says that he had obtained the 45 caliber handgun in North Carolina at the Occupy Asheville protest. The response of the "nonviolent" Occupy Wall Street General Assembly? They voted for a special dispensation to pay for Mr. Fellow's $25,000 bail.

Don Watkins of the Ayn Rand Institute* explains why we may be saddened but should not be shocked by the ObamaCare ruling...

"There's this illusion that I think a lot of people have that we had this private free-market system and then President Obama came along and ruined it all with ObamaCare. That is not at all the truth. The fact is, we've had systematic intervention in the health care system for the last 70 years or so. . . . This is part of this larger growing trend of government intervention."

Surprise! Perhaps it was naive of us, as citizens of a supposedly-free country, to presume that we could so openly flaunt our ability to produce something (save for a filled-out tax form) without Uncle Sam's permission.

While Obama's faithful prophets at Organizing for America (#OFA) run wild with tweets about #NotBackingDown (from gun control), the State Department is setting its crosshairs on 3D-printing. You silly plebeians should know that all activity (and information) must be taxed, licensed, or banned. 25-year-old Cody Wilson, the man who invented the world's first 3D-Printed gun, the brain behind Defense Distributed, is learning that the hard way.

Why do so many journalists describe Obama's foreseeable economic failures as "unexpected"?

If an irresponsible teenager repeatedly crashed his car into a tree whenever he had a few beers, we would never say his accidents were "unexpected." Rather, they would be foreseeable consequences of driving while drinking. Similarly, we shouldn't let journalists get away with describing as "unexpected" the foreseeable negative consequences of bad government policies.

Wait, isn't Dr. Ron Paul out of the presidential race? Isn't it all tied up nicely in a bow with the Romney/Ryan ticket? No.

Why would the GOP be scared of Ron Paul but end up nominating him? I'll explain. Romney and the GOP have demonstrated both poor judgment and poor sportsmanship that might cost them by damaging Romney's electability among the Ron Paul supporters thus leading to a splitting of votes, which in turn, could cost the GOP the entire election. Dr. Ron Paul is still in the race for president and is a strong contender for the 2012 GOP nomination.
