How many Americans does it take to screw in a light bulb? According to President-elect Barack Obama, 2.5 million.

Obama has a new plan, he says, to save or create at least 2.5 million jobs. "We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems and installing efficient light bulbs," Obama said.

A California public interest legal group has taken on a high-profile battle that already has at least three entire law firms lining up on the other side.

But the group has promised to fight until a resolution is reached in the dispute over Barack Obama's eligibility to be president. "For the sake of our Constitution and our republic, the issue MUST be resolved," the legal advocacy group says in a new campaign seeking support for its work.

SAN FRANCISCO -- License plates may be coming to cyberspace. Government and technology experts urge a move away from passwords and toward more secure devices.

Restricting Internet access is one of a series of recommendation that a group of more than sixty government and business computer security specialists will make in a public presentation of "Securing Cyberspace in the 44th Presidency" Monday.

The U.S. Supreme Court today announced it has denied bringing Donofrio v. Wells - one of several cases challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as president - before a full hearing.

The case of Leo C. Donofrio v. New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells claims Obama does not meet the Constitution's Article 2, Section 1 "natural-born citizen" requirement for president because of his dual citizenship at birth.

Former Vice President Al Gore had quite a year. He produced an Oscar-winning film warning of the coming global warming Armageddon. The film and his activism led to a Nobel Prize.

Flush from those victories, Gore "took the Hill," as he testified before a hushed hearing room in his old Senate haunt, predicting more dire consequences if global warming isn't stopped. All of that was followed by mass rallies across the nation, with energized college students; editorials and magazine covers, and even legislation in Congress to curtail the use of carbon fuels.

As this commentary is being written, the latest runaround in the judicial flim-flam of "who lacks 'standing' to demand production of Barack Obama's original Hawaiian birth certificate (if one actually exists)" has just taken place.

Hawaiian Judge Bert Ayabe has dismissed a suit filed by one Andy Martin, on the ground that Martin "does not have a direct and tangible interest in the vital statistic records being sought, namely the birth certificate of President Obama." Ayabe ruled that Martin had provided "insufficient evidence to indicate that the public interest supports" disclosure of the supposed birth certificate.

There's no definitive legal consensus on whether a president can pardon himself. But Bush may well give the theorists an answer.

Charlotte Dennett promised that, if she won her race for attorney general of Vermont in the recent election, she would prosecute George W. Bush for the murder of 4,000 American soldiers and more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians after he left office.

The media bought it. The voters bought it. And now some in Congress are resisting the idea of congressional hearings because they believe that Barack Obama's "birth certificate" has been posted online.

Not so. What was posted was not a birth certificate, but something that resembles a "Certification of Live Birth" or COLB, which, even if authentic, does not prove "natural born" U.S. citizenship. You see, in Hawaii, a Certification of Live Birth is issued within a year of a child's birth to those who register a birth abroad or one that takes place outside a hospital.

Gun sales have skyrocketed since Barack Obama was elected, and many gun owners say they are concerned the nation's next president and a Democratic-controlled Congress will impose a ban on assault rifles and firearm ownership.

From Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, the FBI reported 374,000 background checks on people purchasing guns - a 49 percent jump from last year. Dealers are reporting larger-than-usual sales since Election Day, according to the Chicago Tribune. The rush to buy weapons is more intense than in the days following Y2K and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

One symptom of the economic malaise is the proliferation of yard sales in very middle class neighborhoods throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Even in the clean, cool air of the Sierra Nevada town, Twain Harte, the hotels and restaurants are more than half empty. During Fall, the mammoth pines and redwoods, the clear streams presumably loaded with trout, should lure city dwellers. Every other store window in Twain Harte adorns its windows with photos of bargain houses -- for vacation or retirement.
