ust as our everyday lives depend on the Internet, the backbones of nations increasingly rely on the Internet for communication, coordination, and financial transactions.

But relying on the Internet also exposes those core functions threats from anywhere in the world. Need examples? Two weeks ago, some 30,000 systems at South Korean banks and broadcasters were wiped out in a coordinated attack - it might have come from North Korea, but investigators are still chasing basic details. Last week, a cyber-brawl apparently between Spamhaus and CyberBunker has caused localized collateral damage and may have shaken some top-tier Internet providers.

In an appearance on a popular talk radio program Wednesday, Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain added fuel to the fire of "civil war" talk going on in the GOP.

Although it's clear that if there is a war, he's claiming to be on the side of the rebels. Cain states, "I never thought that I would say this, and this is the first time publicly that I've said it: We need a third party to save this country. Not Ron Paul and the Ron Paulites. No. We need a legitimate third party to challenge the current system that we have, because I don't believe that the Republican Party ... has the ability to rebrand itself."

Michigan state Attorney General Bill Schuette is petitioning the U.S Supreme Court to revisit the constitutionality of preferential policies.

A new non-profit group, the XIV Foundation (as in 14th Amendment), has filed an amicus brief on behalf of Schuette, calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse the 6th circuit ruling. A definitive ruling on affirmative action in college admissions and government hiring could be in order for 2013. Jennifer Gratz, the plaintiff in the 2003 Gratz v. Bollinger Supreme Court decision that struck down the quota system in place at the University of Michigan's undergraduate school, co-founded the XIV Foundation shortly after the 6th circuit court ruled against the MCRI.

The video below is pretty symbolic of what we're seeing from the MSM as a whole, the very same MSM that reported on the absurdly peaceful tea party with seething hostility and contempt.

Well, there may only be a couple hundred cities in the world, but the real pull-quote there is, "And of course they are calling for the 1% of richest Americans to find more ways to help the 99%." Oh, how sweet and noble and innocent they all are.

It's not clear how much economic development the federal Economic Development Administration, a division of the Commerce Department, actually produces.

But the Commerce Department's inspector general has some observations about the administration's performance after a cyber attack that turned out to be bogus. "EDA's persistent, mistaken beliefs resulted in an excessive response and ultimately unnecessary expenditure of valuable resources," the inspector general wrote in a report. "There was no evidence to suggest that EDA's primary business application had been targeted by a cyber attack or maliciously altered."

Why would my contract be terminated for trying to ask a politician a question? In Chicago, there is no outcry that Jay Levine be removed from CBS for making a threat of physical violence. Is that hypocritical? Yes. This is Chicago after all.

In the heated contest over the Republican nomination to be Williamson County's district attorney, incumbent John Bradley has repeatedly said challenger Jana Duty, the elected county attorney, doesn't have enough experience to do his job.

In an op-ed article published on the Austin American-Statesman's website May 14, 2012, for instance, Bradley talked up his résumé and then said: "Duty has never prosecuted a single adult felony case." Not one?

The continuance and/or discontinuance of the wind production tax credit is the subject of much debate among lawmakers and lobbyists at the moment, and it's an issue President Obama often likes to bring up as a hot talking point on the campaign trail, particularly in when he's in Iowa. Advocates like to throw around impressive-sounding statistics about how the wind industry is constantly furthering its own potential and providing Americans with an ever-greater proportion of their energy needs, and how the wind industry provides a bunch of jobs.

Wind energy's industry-wide freakout is finally over, at least for another year; the country's "fastest growing energy source" - or, to put it just a bit more candidly, the country's most expensively subsidized source per actual unit of energy output - will get to keep the wind production tax credit on which they are pretty much entirely dependent through at least 2013.

Question: If a new technology really holds boundless potential to not only meet the raucous, clamoring demand for a viable source of 'green' energy than can fit in with our infrastructure at a worthwhile expense, but also to turn a profit due to its efficient reliability as a smart alternative to traditional energy sources, then why would said technology be so dependent on a wildly generous federal subsidy for its survival? Answer: It wouldn't.
