Gun sales have skyrocketed since Barack Obama was elected, and many gun owners say they are concerned the nation's next president and a Democratic-controlled Congress will impose a ban on assault rifles and firearm ownership.

From Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, the FBI reported 374,000 background checks on people purchasing guns - a 49 percent jump from last year. Dealers are reporting larger-than-usual sales since Election Day, according to the Chicago Tribune. The rush to buy weapons is more intense than in the days following Y2K and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Even though Hawaii officials now claim to have verified the authenticity of Sen. Barack Obama's birth certificate - in hopes of ending widespread speculation - it turns out there is still reason for serious questioning.

Gov. Linda Lingle instructed the Hawaii Department of Health to make sure no one in the press obtains access to Obama's original birth certificate. Lingle's letter to WND made clear that the original doctor-generated and hospital-released birth certificate on file with the state's health department would be released to the press if Obama so requested - but to date the candidate has made no such request.

A lawsuit filed by Democratic attorney Philip Berg alleging that Sen. Barack Obama is ineligible to be president was dismissed by a federal judge yesterday on grounds that Berg lacks standing to bring the lawsuit.

In a 34-page memorandum that accompanied the court order, the Hon. R. Barclay Surrick concludes that ordinary citizens can't sue to ensure that a presidential candidate actually meets the constitutional requirements of the office.

The mask is off. The pretense over. After decades of pretending they're not biased leftward, even though everyone else knew it, America's "mainstream media" have finally, during 2008, dropped the façade of fairness and impartiality.

The New York Times publishes Barack Obama's op-ed on Iraq policy, but refuses to run McCain's op-ed. At the same time, all three network's news anchors tag along with Obama like groupies on his overseas stump tour, while McCain receives scant media coverage.

Following a week of controversy over Fox News' decision to exclude Rep. Ron Paul from a nationally televised forum of GOP candidates two days before the New Hampshire primary, the state Republican Party announced today it had withdrawn its co-sponsorship.

In a press release, New Hampshire Republican Party chairman Fergus Cullen said, "We believe all recognized major candidates should have an equal opportunity to participate in pre-primary debates and forums. This principle applies to tonight's debates on ABC as well as Sunday's planned forum on FOX.

I take a back seat to no one in my admiration of homeschoolers. I am a homeschooler myself.

A Washington Post report suggests homeschoolers are throwing their support to Mike Huckabee in big numbers. While I think there is much to like about Huckabee, there are some major concerns as well.

One presidential candidate gets a secret weapon today - the unabashed and unreserved endorsement of Chuck Norris.

Last week, U.S. Sen. and Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton unveiled a new proposal to fund state pre-kindergarten programs for all 4-year-old children in America.

However, pre-kindergarten programs have been around for many years, and such grandiose claims have been refuted by several studies on the effectiveness of such programs. The truth is government-run pre-kindergarten programs are another huge burden on taxpayers, and, in fact, they are detrimental to children and our country.

WASHINGTON - With Republicans nationally quaking in their boots over control of the House and Senate in this fall's midterm elections, there is one potential bright spot on the horizon for the GOP.

It comes in the form of a gubernatorial race in the battleground state of Ohio - yes, that Ohio, the one Democrats still accuse Republicans of stealing in 2004. Meet Kenneth Blackwell, the secretary of state and a candidate for the highest office in Ohio - a conservative black official and proven statewide vote-getter.
