We've got a brand spanking new, rootin' tootin' study, fresh off the press from a distinguished group of scientists. (And I can tell they were scientists because I checked, and most of them were wearing white lab coats.)

In it, we find what we already suspected about the party that hates science, clings to their guns and their God, and disapproves of Barack Obama not because of his damaging policies, but because he's black. Yep... you guessed it. Turns out that conservatives are stupid. And racist.

When I started talking about the "Popular Uprising" in Egypt being the work of Communists, some of them here in the good ole U.S.A. in fact, Chicago, Illinois and Washington D.C...

Does everybody here now understand how President Obama, a man known for is procrastination in making big decisions, was so lightning quick in throwing Hosni Mubarek under the bus?

In the wake of recent news that the NSA is spying on Americans, I have been particularly struck by the argument that "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear."

At first blush, this argument might seem sound - after all, if the government is merely conducting anti-terrorism surveillance, non-terrorists shouldn't be affected, right? But if you look more closely, you'll see this idea is full of holes. The "nothing to hide" argument mistakenly suggests that privacy is something only criminals desire. In fact, we choose to do many things in private - sing in the shower, make love, confide in family and friends - even though they are not wrong or illegal. Who would not be embarrassed if all of their most intimate details were exposed?

Well, duh. What's crazy is that the administration has ever tried to say otherwise.

Fortunately, insurers aren't afraid to state the obvious. Hidden - or not-so-hidden - in the administration's insistent mandate that insurers provide coverage for contraception to the employees of religiously-affiliated organizations is a very real cost.

Remember all that brouhaha over Ron Paul needing five states to nominate him, according to the old "Rule 40"?

Well, today six states (or entities with delegations) tried to nominate him--Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, Minnesota, Alaska and the Virgin Islands. What happened then? A rule change was adopted saying you need eight. Sorry Ron!

This is just the beginning.

In case you missed it, Boeing announced massive layoffs and facilities closures yesterday. More: Small business owners are dropping the axe as they brace for the costs and burdens of Obamacare. In case you missed it, I reported on Obama's layoff bomb last week...

So what happens, when you are a police captain, and refuse to attend the "Police Appreciation Day", an event sponsored by The Islamic Society of Tulsa?

Why, you get punished by being demoted, being docked 2 weeks pay, and told you will not be eligible for promotion. That is what happened to Captain Paul Fields, who is Christian, and decided to opt out of the event, (I am surprised that they didn't demand that he receive sensitivity training as well...at least they haven't yet.) In fact, many officers had that option initially because it was a voluntary to attend. But after systemic disinterest the superiors in the department made the day mandatory.

I was in Amsterdam when the Snowden story broke. CNN was non-stop asking politicians and pundits, "Is Edward Snowden a traitor?" Those who said he betrayed America also said something else: Mass surveillance is only an issue if you're a criminal.

The Snowden story hit me upon my return from - of all places on earth - the Secret Annex of the Anne Frank House. The Secret Annex is where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis for two years. It was during this period of hiding in terror that Anne wrote her world-famous diary. In it she confided, "I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met."

Mitt Romney is just not going to cut it for many of Ron Paul's devoted legion of young followers.

Most of the Ron Paul supporters approached by Red Alert Politics Friday night at the Liberty Political Action Conference in Chantilly, Va., said they could not see many differences between Romney and President Obama. Their general consensus was that Romney is a weak candidate who has not effectively made his case. Libertarian candidate Gov. Gary Johnson seemed to be the choice of many. They seemed undeterred by suggestions that a vote for anyone other than Romney equals a vote for Obama as they exited the ballroom where Paul had just finished speaking.

Ever since I was a young(er) man, I've heard about the coming wave of young voters who were ready to "rock the vote" and change the world.

Sadly, while this was predicted every four years, it rarely happened. The youth vote tended to raise their voices loudly for the media but failed to deliver on election day. That changed to a certain extent in 2008, though, when they turned out in fairly impressive numbers for Barack Obama. So are they gearing up for a similar showing in the coming year? At least according to one analysis, not so much.
