When the armed teen made a break, Officer Don Koski tackled him, wrestled him, handcuffed him and took a small-caliber pistol from his pocket.

It's a routine scene from the streets, but on Friday it played out in the central office of Heritage High School, Saginaw Township police said.

...Then again, if one considers how TV shows such as "Law and Order" see fit to preach that homeschooled children are malnourished and abused little freaks, it seems only reasonable to point out in like manner that public schooled children are brainwashed, quasi-illiterate savages, with targets painted on their chests to boot.

A public school teacher who spends his/her own money to purchase supplies, materials, texts, and learning aids for the classroom may deduct the money spent on those items on their itemized federal tax return.

Parents who educate their children at home with materials purchased using their own money may not deduct the cost of those materials on the family tax return. These parents are no less teachers than those working in a local school, but current tax laws treat them as if they are.

In the most recent case, a U.S. district judge in Connecticut determined Monday that an arrangement by which General Electric Co., through subsidiaries and partnerships, shifted $310 million in income to two Dutch banks that don't pay U.S. taxes was not a sham and, as a result, GE was entitled to a $62 million tax refund.

Lately, Democratic presidential contender John Kerry has been making laughable attempts to appeal to gun owners, despite his very clear record in favor of gun control.

This would probably be funnier if it weren't for the fact that Bush, too, has a very clear record of undermining the Second Amendment. Most supporters of gun rights seem to be oblivious to this, or at best only dimly aware. Pointing out the failure by Bush to protect the right to bear arms nearly always brings out the question "So you think Kerry would be better?" Obviously only those who agree with Sarah Brady think Kerry would be better on guns, but it would take some considerable effort for Kerry to do worse, as Bush has attacked gun rights in his domestic agenda, by Administration actions in the courts, and in his foreign policy.

A surveillance system that uses 2,000 remote-control cameras and motion-sensing software to spot crimes or terrorist acts as they happen is being planned for the city.

The high-definition, motorized cameras can rotate 360 degrees and include night-vision capability. They will be mounted on buildings and utility poles across the city. The city is also considering allowing private companies to join the network, for a fee. Officials said the system size is nearly limitless.
