Humans have eaten sourdough since the ancient Egyptians were grinding grains and leavening bread thousands of years ago. But as a child of the '80s, I grew up on processed white bread so soft it practically made chewing unnecessary.

As an adult I've had to part ways with the bread of my childhood. I could no longer digest the commercially processed stuff, but, unfortunately, most of the whole grain loaves I picked up from the bakery weren't any easier on my stomach. Then I found sourdough.

Scientists in developing nations plan to step up research into dimming sunshine to curb climate change, hoping to judge if a man made chemical sunshade would be less risky than a harmful rise in global temperatures.

Solar geo-engineering studies would be helped by a new $400,000 fund from the Open Philanthropy Project, a foundation backed by Dustin Moskovitz, a co-founder of Facebook, and his wife, Cari Tuna, they wrote. "The fund could help scientists in developing nations study regional impacts of solar geo-engineering such as on droughts, floods or monsoons," said Andy Parker, a co-author and project director of the Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative.

Scientists call on the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer to re-evaluate the carcinogenicity of cell phone radiation after the Ramazzini Institute and US government studies report finding the same unusual cancers

Researchers with the renowned Ramazzini Institute (RI) in Italy announce that a large-scale lifetime study of lab animals exposed to environmental levels of cell tower radiation developed cancer. A $25 million study of much higher levels of cell phone radiofrequency (RF) radiation, from the US National Toxicology Program (NTP), has also reported finding the same unusual cancer called Schwannoma of the heart in male rats treated at the highest dose. In addition, the RI study of cell tower radiation also found increases in malignant brain (glial) tumors in female rats and precancerous conditions including Schwann cells hyperplasia in both male and female rats.

Researchers call for greater caution, but skeptics say the evidence from rat studies is not convincing

Does cell phone radiation cause cancer? New studies show a correlation in lab rats, but the evidence may not resolve ongoing debates over causality or whether any effects arise in people. The ionizing radiation given off by sources such as x-ray machines and the sun boosts cancer risk by shredding molecules in the body. But the non-ionizing radio-frequency (RF) radiation that cell phones and other wireless devices emit has just one known biological effect: an ability to heat tissue by exciting its molecules.

Pain is a major problem, but so is medication use to help relieve the pain. If you haven't realized by now that chiropractic care, not drugs, is your best option for pain, perhaps you'll be swayed by some recent research.

So, point #1: Opioids aren't your best option for pain. But neither are NSAIDs, at least when compared to chiropractic, according to a study that also appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Chiropractic spinal manipulation reduced pain and improved function in back pain patients after six weeks of treatment, and results were similar to that achieved with NSAID use - but without the side effects and other risks associated with medication use (particularly use for more than 10 days at a time). So, point #2: NSAIDs aren't your best option, either.

The quick fix a pill provides, in addition to an aging population that experiences more aches and pains than it once did, led to a rise in opioid use. When generic opioids hit the market, and the price began to drop, the prescriptions began to rise.

"Chiropractic treatments are gentle and effective and do not use drugs or surgery," Phillips said. "Decompression therapy is non-invasive. Exercising, stretching, and diet modification are all things that can help alleviate pain." The latest tool is the MLS (Multi-Wave Locked System) Therapy Laser, a device that was FDA cleared for use nine years ago. The first laser therapy was a breakthrough, giving health care practitioners another way to improve the quality of life for their patients. "In the past, you would work with other therapies to try to do this," Phillips said. "We would work with ice therapy or massage therapy. What we're finding is that through laser therapy, we can have a set treatment protocol that's shorter, and we are able to get people better faster.

When the Center for Environmental Health released test results showing that Pepsi intentionally covered up the presence of high levels of 4-Mel in its popular soft drinks in 2013, the company denied both the presence of this chemical in its beverages...

And the fact that it was dangerous. 4-Mel, which is short for 4-Methylimidazole, is a compound that is formed in the manufacturing of caramel coloring, and is a known carcinogen. Since then, the drinks maker has fought against complying with California state requirements to place a cancer warning label on the beverages that contain the ingredient, which include not only Pepsi, but also Diet Pepsi and Pepsi One.
