HOUSTON - A teen has been arrested in east Houston for taking a gun to school. Officials at North Shore Senior High School say along with a gun, the 15-year-old boy was also carrying a butterfly knife in his backpack.

When officers reached the student, they found he was carrying an unloaded small handgun, two bullets and a butterfly knife all inside a black glove inside his backpack. Initially investigators assumed the young man was operating alone, but they later found that may not be the case.

When staff members at a Wellesley, Mass., school went to the nurse last Friday, they expected to be injected with a vaccine for theH1N1 flu. What they received instead was a shot of insulin resulting in a bout with low blood sugar.

Such errors have happened before. This past fall, a number of people in the neighboring town of Needham received a seasonal flu vaccine in place of the H1N1 vaccines they were supposed to receive. And in 2007, a teacher in the nearby town of Attleboro also received an injection of insulin instead of the intended flu shot.

Bill Nye the Science Guy is here to buck up all of us who already miss the planet Pluto.

Bill Nye: We're calling it a dwarf planet. I like the term "ice dwarf." ... These are the objects smaller than, let's say, 1,500 kilometers ... made of ice. ... Ice dwarf - there it is: It's icy, it's small, it's out there. If you brought Pluto close to the sun, like where Mercury is, it would have a tail like a comet and in a few millennia, it would volatize. It would just disappear into space.

Education reformers like Kevin Chavous have a message for these parents: If you only knew. Even though people in the suburbs might think their schools are great, Chavous says, "They're not. That's the thing and the test scores show that."

Chavous and many other education professionals say Americans don't know that their public schools, on the whole, just aren't that good. Because without competition, parents don't know what their kids might have had. And while many people say, "We need to spend more money on our schools," there actually isn't a link between spending and student achievement.
