A Utah woman who was ordered by a juvenile court judge to enroll her children in public school or lose custody of them has abandoned her home, furniture and other possessions to escape the order.

Denise Mafi, a nine-year veteran of homeschooling, has confirmed to WND she and her children packed up their essentials - clothes and homeschool materials - and fled Utah over the weekend, spending more than 50 hours on a bus trip to another undisclosed part of the country.

Los Angeles -- My classroom lay in ashes. The acrid smell of asbestos permeated the thick air in the "C" building, where police had cordoned off the area with bright yellow tape, forbidding the entry of staff and students.

The entire wing of our language building would be closed for an entire six weeks. Collateral damage done to the adjacent classrooms meant that a slew of teachers would be "traveling", juggling books, tests, overhead transparencies, and supplies, like gypsies, bivouacking through lunch areas, track bleachers, even lawn areas of the senior quad.

The word "scrotum" is on the first page of "The Higher Power of Lucky," a book that won a prestigious award.

A Newbery-winning book has been banned from some school libraries around the country. Susan Patron, the author of the book and a librarian, said the controversial word was just part of the character's learning about body parts.

With the state's budget in crisis, legislators are turning to any resource to pay the state's bills. First 5 to lose upwards of $1.6 billion.

First 5 Sacramento supports the Sacramento Crisis Nursery a county program that seeks to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support, food, shelter and counseling to families in times of crisis. In Santa Clara County, First 5 provided $750,000 in matching money to help the Family Court win a five-year, $3.7 million federal grant to create a program for drug addicted mothers and pregnant women.

The Wisconsin GOP reports that Democrats in the Bay State are "using a fraudulent tactic to harass and intimidate constituents who favor recalling Democrat Senator Dave Hansen of Green Bay."

Somehow, calls are being placed in the name of "Bay Care Aurora" - a local hospital - by left-wing activists targeting voters who signed petitions to recall fleebagger state Sen. Hansen...

Maybe the caller was only trying to make sure the pumps were clear in case any Wisconsin Senate fleebaggers needed to top off the tank for another escape to Illinois.

As it turns out, the person in question wasn't even the Senator, but rather his brother - which according to established threat etiquette means the school employee should have instead had her sister make the call... at least I think that's what the protocol should have been.

Wisconsin's McIver Institute reports that the school district in Hudson, Wisconsin (part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area) is apologizing after showing a pro-Barack Obama video to students on Wednesday.

It's a sappy "I Pledge" video stuffed with celebrities made by Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions in 2009. The school district played the video for middle school students as a part of their "Peace One Day" event. In the district's apology, they wrote: "The reason the video was used was to show students small ways to make a difference in their communities. Most of the video provided viewers with examples like: end hunger in America; volunteer more; always represent your country with pride, dignity and honesty; and care for America's elderly. Unfortunately, the video also had a political slant. The District is non-partisan and does not endorse the political messages found in this video. This video will not be used in the District again."

Call it karma, just desserts, or schadenfreude.  The cost to taxpayers of doctors' notes excusing Wisconsin teachers from work so that they don't get fired for illegally walking out on classes has been estimated at $6 million.

Meanwhile, those notes may not help some of the teachers keep their jobs anyway. If Democrats don't return to the state Senate by Friday, Governor Scott Walker will order layoffs from lists that districts have already been advised to prepare...

This is the guy who not only held his caucus together under tremendous pressure, who not only signed the orders of contempt dispatching state police to hunt down the Fleebagger 14...

I bet the death threats he's getting these days are exquisite. In a sign that Republicans are still smarting from the exodus of Democrats during deliberations on the budget, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) told his caucus on Monday that Democrats remain in contempt of the Senate. That means, he said, that Democrats can't vote on bills or amendments.

Woody Allen once said that 80 percent of success is just showing up.

And if you're in the Wisconsin Senate, the other 20 percent is having a firm grasp on the rules in order to work around those who don't show up...
