Megan Finlan and Stephen Bauer, foster parents who admitted to withholding food from an 8-year-old boy as punishment, were sentenced to 5-10 years in jail after pleading no contest to five counts of negligent child abuse in July.

The boy, Camron, weighed as little as 32 pounds at age 8 and he in November of 2015, staff at Florence Elementary reported that he was underweight. The boy would also eat food out of the trash at school.

In this treatment, called chimeric antigen receptor therapy, or CAR therapy, T cells are collected from a patient's blood, genetically engineered to recognize certain proteins on cancer cells, and infused back into the patient's bloodstream.

SEATTLE - A Thurston County judge has penalized a food industry group $18 million for concealing the true source of contributions to oppose a 2013 food labeling initiative.

Judge Anne Hirsch on Wednesday found the Grocery Manufacturers Association "intentionally violated" state campaign finance disclosure laws as it raised and spent money to defeat Initiative 522. That failed ballot measure would have required labeling of genetically modified foods.

If you asked most people what color egg yolks are, they would likely answer yellow. Yolks have always been associated with the color yellow, which is unfortunate because backyard chicken keepers know better.

Backyard chicken keepers know that yolks can and should be a bright, bold orange, and those bright, bold orange yolks are a sign of a happy, healthy hen. Last year, I compared my pasture-foraging, insect-pecking, soil-scratching, whole grain-feeding chickens' yolks to the yolks of both their "free-ranging" and factory-farmed counterparts. The results were clearly visible: Yolks from my homegrown eggs were not only darker, but also fuller and thicker. Even the eggshells were denser and harder to crack. But what's the big deal about orange yolks?
