In the Commonwealth of Virginia, little is required to open carry a handgun. You don't need a special license or certificate, and you don't even have to have the firearm registered.

So I was eighteen years old. Legally, I couldn't purchase a firearm but I could carry one on my person (and with a certain permit, I could carry one concealed). And I knew this. I have a sort of routine walk that I use to advocate open carry. I know where the school zones are. I know where the government offices are. And so my route is quite safe from any zone that could get me into serous trouble if I choose to carry a firearm. While taking a walk down Lauderdale Drive one day, I was stopped by an officer...

Starting in 1973, when my colleagues and I proposed the technology behind the Internet, we advocated for an open standard to connect computer networks together. This wasn't merely philosophical; it was also practical.

Our protocols were designed to make the networks of the Internet non-proprietary and interoperable. They avoided "lock-in," and allowed for contributions from many sources. This openness is why the Internet creates so much value today. Because it is borderless and belongs to everyone, it has brought unprecedented freedoms to billions of people worldwide: the freedom to create and innovate, to organize and influence, to speak and be heard. But starting in a few hours, a closed-door meeting of the world's governments is taking place in Dubai, and regulation of the Internet is on the agenda.

Adobe's database was hacked on October 3, impacting an estimated 150 million Adobe users. Here's a simple way to see if you're affected.

Wonder if your email address, password, credit card information or more was leaked to the world when Adobe's database was hacked last October? If you've gotten your email address anywhere near an Adobe product past or present, then the answer is: probably. Recent reports reveal that Adobe's stolen database held around 150 million user accounts - and not the 2.9 million Adobe originally reported, or the 38 million Krebs on Security later reported.

Inside AdSense

We launched AdSense for mobile content before the smartphone revolution when everyone had a flip phone.

Our goal was to help pioneering publishers monetize their mobile content. Since then, we've seen mobile technology advance and an increasing number of consumers are viewing content from "smarter" mobile devices. To make it easier for publishers to use AdSense to monetize mobile web pages, we've migrated all mobile ad unit sizes, including the mobile banner ad unit, into the core product.

We could, and should, all integrate workflow optimization into our working practices.

Perhaps we should warn you upfront for the long compilation, but what can we say - there are so many excellent tools out there which deserve attention of the community, yet unfortunately remain obscure way too often. We love all the designers and developers out there for releasing and producing useful, valuable resources for all of us to use! We, for one, surely sincerely appreciate it in the name of the Web design community. Whether you like it or not, here are some of the most useful coding and workflow tools released recently.

Recently I had a very sobering experience that demonstrated just how serious the threat of hacked WordPress sites is. I discovered hidden link injections in some posts on a few of my old sites.

These are sites that I no longer actively maintain, they were kind of neglected, and haven't been updated in a while. The hack inserted links to drug sites (the viagra and cialis bunch) using "display: none" attribute to hide them from the page. I think Google disregards these hidden type of links, but having them can penalize your site nevertheless.

At ManageWP we are obsessed with speed. With the recent launch of our new dashboard we improved loading times for the application by almost 100% in some areas.

We also invest time in optimising our server setup for optimum performance. We already run the optimised "WordPress stack" - PHP 5.4.x, nginx with PHP-FPM and Percona MySQL. Today we explored the Zend Optimizer+ opcode cache for PHP...

Welcome to Part III of the ManageWP Story -- a series of posts that will tell the ManageWP story from its humble beginnings right up to present day.

Part II finished with me feeling a mixture of pride in my progress to date and frustration with not yet having created something really groundbreaking. I had built a successful business and even had a small team around me, but my heart wasn't truly in WordPress website development. I knew that I wanted to take a step beyond. So how did I change my fortunes? Read on to find out!

No, I'm completely serious. I know.

Mike Malloy, that bastion of bountiful braininess to whom no one would listen if Larry O'Connor didn't post his remarks on Breitbart.tv, says Andrew Breitbart is responsible for Occupy Oakland violence.
