When Alberta legislators voted in favour of the amendment to the Human Rights Code enshrined in Bill 44 they took a risk.

This bill will enshrine the right of parents to remove their children from classes that deal with subject matter related to sexuality, religion and sexual orientation. Though this right is already guaranteed under the Alberta Education Act, the move is a symbolic one, recognizing that these rights are basic human rights.

A tipster alerted me to an interesting assertion. A cursory review by that person showed that many of the Chrysler dealers on the closing list were heavy Republican donors.

To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn't an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.

You wake up one morning and you're feeling achy and feverish. The directions from health officials battling swine flu are clear: Stay home from work. Don't risk infecting others. And certainly don't send a sick kid to school.

But what if you're one of the estimated 57 million working Americans with no paid sick days? Staying home could mean losing a paycheck, or worse, losing your job entirely. The prospect of workers showing up with swine flu - or sick kids infecting their schoolmates - is bringing added urgency to efforts to pass a federal law guaranteeing paid sick leave.

Just listen to her. This minute and a half really says it all. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) succinctly explains that not only should the private sector be displaced by the government, accomplishing it isn't a principled fight. The end justifies any means.

She made herself clear. The government will displace the private sector and the government does not intend to fight fair in attaining that goal. I just watched this video again and it sickens me. This is about far more than medical care. This is about the soul of America.

Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular president in 40 years. It's no surprise the liberal media aren't anxious to point out that their darling is less popular than George W. Bush.

The explanation for Mr. Obama's low approval is that he ran as a moderate but has governed from the far left. In all three presidential debates, Mr. Obama promised to cut government spending and reduce the size of the deficit. He blamed the economic crisis on excessive deficits. At no time did candidate Barack Obama say that more deficit-spending was the solution.

As a business owner, tax payer, elected official, independent thinker and someone who can read AND use Google, I admit that I am VERY skeptical when the government warns me about anything.

Government often causes more problems than they solve, and it's in their own best interests (power, taxes, job security, etc.) to have a crisis du jour to keep people alarmed, afraid and looking for a government solution. Anyone remember Alar? DDT? Acid Rain, Ozone Hole? Coffee? The list is long because fearful people are much more malleable. Liberals, aka Marxists, statists, socialists, communists, progressives, democrats crave control over every aspect of your life, so they must find new ways to create fear and dissension amongst the people to further their insatiable lust for power and their devious, subversive efforts to enrich themselves and control you (think convenient liar Spotted Al Gore).
