I used to think time was the most limited resource. It's so limited that you can't even save it for later.

But there's something even more limited than time. It's your attention. Attention is a subset of time, therefore it's more limited. How you spend your attention is more important than how you spend your time. Attention is about focus and careful, thoughtful consideration. Unlike time - which can be broken into convenient chunks of 15 minutes - attention doesn't divide quite so neatly or easily.

Foster parents who starved child sentenced to 5-10 years in jail

Megan Finlan and Stephen Bauer, foster parents who admitted to withholding food from an 8-year-old boy as punishment, were sentenced to 5-10 years in jail after pleading no contest to five counts of negligent child abuse in July.

The boy, Camron, weighed as little as 32 pounds at age 8 and he in November of 2015, staff at Florence Elementary reported that he was underweight. The boy would also eat food out of the trash at school.

There are a lot of terms for the design of how the site functions and works, from "usability design" to "user experience," what remains constant is that if we want to become better designers we have to pair these two concepts together. Using clear and effective design laws as guides we can use proven formulas for better design. These laws both assist in the usability / experience of our design as well as the aesthetic values. Furthermore being able to refer and cite these laws when presenting or discussing design you can further establish yourself as a expert with justified reasons for your design choices.

More than $1 million in federal disaster aid has been approved for eligible applicants affected by the spring storms and flooding that occurred from April 23rd to May 9th.

Since Obama issued a major disaster declaration on June 15th for these storms in the counties of Addison, Chittenden, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, and Orleans, over 800 people have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

LAS VEGAS -- The use of powerful mood-altering drugs for mental health treatment is on the rise among kids in the care of Nevada's child welfare system. It's a trend the I-Team first examined back in 2009.

Despite assurances from both state and local officials progress has been painfully and perhaps dangerously slow. The data the I-Team received from both the state and the county is such a mess it's hard to say exactly how much the use of psychotropic medications among kids in care has increased. What is clear is that nearly 30 percent of kids in the system are taking at least one of these medications and the state confirms an increase last year. At the same time both agencies were supposed to be fixing the problem.

Woman sues after being held 'hostage'

A woman from Carbondale claims she suffered emotional and mental distress during an active shooter training exercise she claims she didn't know she was a part of.

Michelle Meeker is suing the Carbondale police chief and an officer. Her employer, the Heritage Park Care Center, where the exercise occurred October 13, 2013, is also listed in the complaint. In a complaint received by 9NEWS Tuesday, Meeker claims she was taken hostage by a man with a gun while at work at the assisted living center in Carbondale. Meeker says the gunman held her against her will while she begged for her life. According to the complaint, what she did not know at the time was that the man with the gun was a Carbondale police officer, and it was all a part of an active shooter drill that was taking place. Meeker claims that she was not informed of the training and suffered severe mental and emotional distress since the incident.

This morning's announcement that Opera intends to abandon its Presto rendering engine has left designers and developers with a number of questions. I sent a few over to Opera's Bruce Lawson to shed a little light on the situation.

So. "Any exciting news in the world of Opera today," he asked knowingly. We announced that Opera will switch its rendering engine to WebKit and JavaScript engine to V8 by building on top of Chromium (the open-source browser that powers Google Chrome). We've been talking to the WebKit project and some of its contributory organizations for a while, and today we submitted a small but symbolic patch to WebKit that will bring all WebKit browsers' CSS multicolumn support up to the level we have in Opera's current proprietary Presto engine.

Multiple exploitations over the last month have sounded the alarms for anyone that has a Ruby or Ruby on Rails app deployed. How does this affect you? These bugs allow "attackers to bypass authentication systems, inject arbitrary SQL, inject and execute arbitrary code, or perform a DoS attack on a Rails application." To break that down: the attacker will have the full ability to run code on your system. With this security opening, they can now take over your server, and it doesn't stop there.
