Earlier this year we announced that NBC said all children would be micro-chipped by the year 2017, but it looks like Australia might have beaten us to the punch.

Back in 2010, CBS news reported that the Australian government had a major RFID micro-chipping plan in the works related to the health care system. Now it seems that this plan is beginning to unfold but the push is not a result of mandated health care reforms, but rather an extremely clever propaganda campaign that equates RFID micro-chipping to becoming a superhuman.

Nebraska child welfare workers, the report says, need to be better trained to study the bodies of babies for signs of abuse. The workers need to understand how to look not only for major bruises but also for more subtle visible signs that can indicate an infant is suffering from physical trauma.

A Modesto man struck it rich while panning for treasure when he came upon a nearly 18-ounce gold nugget in a creek to the west of Sonora.

"A thick T-bone steak: 5 inches long, 1 1/2 inch thick by 4 inches wide," said Bryant Shock, co-owner of Gold Prospecting Adventure in Jamestown, describing the large nugget found last week by the amateur gold prospector at Woods Creek in Jamestown.

HERE'S SOME UNHELPFUL back-to-school advice: Don't buy a laptop. Borrow one, steal one from a family member, buy a piece of junk for 40 bucks on Craigslist. If you can find a way to wait a couple of months before dropping serious coin on a new clamshell.

Later this fall, Apple's almost certainly going to release a new MacBook Pro, which is desperately in need of a revamp. And there will be Windows PCs practically falling from the ceiling-maybe even a few made by Microsoft itself. But the real reason to hold off on your purchase is to wait for the new breed of Chromebooks that are on their way.

Idaho lawmakers begin study of foster care system

Idaho foster care parents are urging lawmakers to reform the current state system, saying that foster care bureaucracy has caused unnecessary heartache and frustration.

The Lewiston Tribune reported that the Idaho Legislature's foster care study committee met for the first time on Friday. The panel will meet over the summer and provide recommendations for consideration during the 2017 legislative session. Parents who testified Friday argued that the state needs better implementation guidelines and should avoid arbitrarily moving children, which can cause emotional harm.

DES child care program to serve more low-income families

The Arizona Department of Economic Security says it has good news for many low-income families looking to receive child care for their children. The DES Child Care Administration has released nearly 4,400 children.

Child care assistance is now available to an additional 4,385 that were the highest priority on the wait list. All 2,298 released families will receive a notice in the mail informing them of this change in status.
