We love our pets. Our dogs are members of the family. To many of us, they are one of the kids - the furry one. But are we as careful with what we feed our pets as what we feed our children? Frequently, ads for pet food claim that they have "real" food, but the ingredients end up being things like wheat gluten meal, animal by-products, and corn by-products.

A mineral that has received a lot of bad press, salt is actually fundamental to our health. Ironic, isn't it? So why are we led to believe salt is bad? I am blowing the lid on the salt debate.

So here it is: SALT IS GOOD FOR YOU Salt? I hear you say. Are you sure? And this is where the camp of traditional believers might jump in, yelling 'NO. IT'S NOT!'. And they would be right if I was talking about the chemically produced table salt that is added to most processed foods, meats and snacks (that IS bad for you). But I'm not. I'm talking about REAL salt - 100 percent natural salt that is extracted from a legitimate natural source and is not bleached or processed.

Palm oil is used in many things from chips and baked goods to shampoo and cleaning products to an oil used for cooking. It is the most widley used vegetable oil in the world.

It even sounds healthier because it's different from GMO vegetable oil like canola. It comes from a palm fruit grown on an African oil palm tree so what could be unhealthy, harmful, or unsustainable about that? Well it's contributing to the death of thousands of orangutans and many other animals who live in the forests. Not to mention, it's affecting the indigenous people and the environment.

To boost its supply of organic foods, Costco is trying something new: It's working with farmers to help them buy land and equipment as it struggles to keep pace with customer demand.

At Costco's recent shareholder meeting, CEO Craig Jelinek touted the vast amounts of food the company sold last year, from 83 million rotisserie chickens to $6.1 billion worth of produce. As for organics, one of the fastest-growing categories in food sales and one in which Costco has become a major player?

In November of last year, California state officials placed an indefinite hold on the commercial crab season, in order to protect public health. The reason given by the state was dangerously high levels of algal toxins in the bodies of the crabs.

But according to New York radio station 95.1 FM (SuperStation 95), insiders from the California Fish and Game Commission have revealed that the real reason for the ban was dangerously high levels of radioactivity resulting from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. Radioactive crab are so dangerous to eat that state officials felt the need to protect the public, Superstation 95 reports. But officials were unwilling to publicly admit the true reason for the ban, which contradicts official claims that the Fukushima disaster poses no threat to the U.S. West coast.

Borax, also known as sodium borate (a salt of boric acid), has many uses. It's found in many household cleaning products, detergents, and cosmetics. It's probably best known as a roach pesticide.

The US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health declare sodium borate to be a dangerous poison. Side effects include: vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, blisters, collapse, coma, convulsions, drowsiness, fever, low blood pressure, decreased urine output, sloughing of the skin, and twitching of facial muscles, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Sodium borate has also been banned in the US as a food additive.

In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto's Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation's 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America's organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal.

A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield Farm, has decided it's time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto's controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for "coexistence" with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

We began by talking about how to mix the loaf, including the science of gluten, and how our four ingredients-flour, water, salt, and yeast-come together to form dough. After that, we got into what yeast really does during rising and fermentation.

Bread can be a fickle animal. Even though it's one of the simplest, oldest foods on earth, it also takes a lot of finesse and practice before you can make it confidently and well. Today we're going to go through troubleshooting the loaves we've already baked to learn how to make them better and more consistent in the future.

U.S. presidential candidate and Texas senator Ted Cruz went all-in for Monsanto on the campaign trail in Iowa, parroting Monsanto's propaganda by proclaiming that GMOs are feeding the world while insulting health-conscious consumers.

By equating support of GMO labeling with "anti-science zealotry." At the Iowa Agricultural Summit, Cruz revealed that he in effect fully supports the mass poisoning of the American people with hidden (unlabeled) GMOs, cancer-causing glyphosate herbicide, farmer suicides caused by GMO crop failures and the widespread genetic pollution unleashed by genetically modified crops. "[W]e shouldn't let anti-science zealotry shutdown the ability to produce low-cost quality food for billions across the globe," he stated, invoking a false claim that's actually a widely disproven Monsanto talking point.
