Beijing has spent billions developing GMO crops in the hopes of securing food for its burgeoning population, but there has not yet been approval for the commercial cultivation of these crops.

Nonetheless, GM corn is already growing in China illegally, causing further distrust in the government's ability to regulate GM crops. In Northeast China farmers are already growing GM corn, and these crops can easily contaminate others which are not genetically modified. This is one of the many concerns the Chinese have concerning biotech seed. A Greenpeace report urges that Beijing will be unable to supervise GM planting once it is given a green light for cultivation, leading to widespread contamination of other crops.

CBS this Morning did a story on GMOs on January 17, 2016 (video length - 10:30). Right from the beginning, the reporting was clearly, once again, extremely deficient of proper research - but this was overshadowed by the obvious bias in favor of GMOs.

The story opened with a brief one-sided look at Hawai'i and GM papayas. The reporter asked a papaya grower if they were safe and the grower assured him that they were because he (and his children) had been consuming them for 20 years. The reporter accepted that as proof that they were therefore safe by insinuation because he didn't offer anything from his extensive research to counter that assertion.

I really despise microwaves. I really always have. Even as a child, I would comment that the microwave would "make the food taste weird." And of course, it most certainly does "make the food taste weird."

Want to make your microwave experience even worse? Heat up something covered in plastic. Toxic chemicals such as BPA, polyethylene terpthalate (PET), benzene, toluene, and xylene are all just the beginning of the ensemble of toxic terror your food will experience when you choose to go this route.

A growing demand for organic food, coupled with healthy eating trends and a preference for premium products, is driving the growth of the natural food preservatives sector, according to a report.

North America was identified as the region currently dominating the food preservative industry, with a 36.5% value share in the food preservatives market in 2013. The report expected this lead to continue in the coming years. While Asia Pacific was identified as following a similar trend, Choudhury believed growth might be restrained by more stringent regulations. "Various food preservatives are currently banned in different part of the world which is acting as a barrier for the food preservatives market. The impact of this restraint is high at present and it is expected to remain so in the next few years," he said. "Developing countries that do not have strong government regulations are expected to witness higher demand for preservatives in the future. It is expected that FDA policies could be revised in the next decade."

There's more than one way to skin a cat. That's especially true when looking at how states are tangling with the dilemma of how to regulate the sale of raw milk.

Raw milk is milk that hasn't been pasteurized with heat to kill pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria and campylobacter. The controversy comes because many raw-milk advocates tout it as a natural, clean product that offers a wide range of health benefits, among them preventing digestive upsets and asthma. Many also say it's a matter of food freedom - that consumers should be free to choose what they drink or eat.

The number of turkeys that will have to be euthanized in Dubois County has increased to over 200,000. Governor Mike Pence visited Dubois County Saturday afternoon and released the information during a meeting with local news media.

According to Pence, who had just met with county officials as well as representatives from the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, Indiana Homeland Security, and other state agencies, samples from two other sites had shown a preliminary indication of the H7N8 avian flu virus. Those sites are within the 6.2-mile testing area established around the Kalb farm where the first infection was found Thursday. The APHIS National Veterinary Service Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, is in the process of confirming the presence of the virus in the samples.

Who really wants the new genetically modified potato in their shopping cart, anyway? Certainly not the consumers, who have been flocking away from Monsanto and other companies' GMOs like the plague, buying organic food at a clip not seen years.

And it's certainly not the potato farmers, either: the National Potato Council itself even admitted that the new GMO potatoes from the company J.R. Simplot could cause financial losses in the billions for American farmers. "(There is) concern about the potential for GMO technology to disrupt potato exports valued at more than $1.6 billion," Potato Council CEO John Keeling admitted in July 2014. He also said there needs to be clear labeling of the GMO potatoes, something that has not happened. - See more at: http://althealthworks.com/6784/warning-unlabeled-gmo-potatoes-just-landed-on-store-shelves-what-you-must-do-to-avoid-them/#sthash.EDMVi8Kt.dpuf

Milk. It does the body...well...not a whole lot of good, at least according to a variety of studies. But before all of that, let's actually talk about dairy. Humans aren't really supposed to consume the milk produced by animals.

That statement alone shouldn't need much explaining or validating, but I know for some, dairy is a bit of a heated talking point. Unless you are a calf, you don't need cow's milk. This is nature speaking more than me writing. That's because Americans have been brought up to believe that milk is healthy and essential to our lives. The milk industry is huge and largely incestual with our government's food agencies (have a look at the food pyramid, folks).

A potato genetically engineered to resist the pathogen that caused the Irish potato famine is as safe as any other potato on the market, the Food and Drug Administration says.

In a letter Tuesday to Idaho-based J.R. Simplot Co., the FDA said the potato isn't substantially different in composition or safety from other products already on the market, and it doesn't raise any issues that would require the agency to do more stringent premarket vetting.
