You can be savvy with Whole Foods grocery shopping if you know the tricks of the trade. People are loving organic food, especially with documentaries such as Food Inc. shedding light on unhealthy farming practices.

But going organic can be more expensive, so I turned to Ashley Hawkins, spokesperson of the supermarket chain, for some tips on how to save. Most stores or metro areas have their own Twitter and Facebook pages, and they definitely list deals and specials there.

Olives are one of the oldest foods known to man and their one of the tastiest as well. Their rich history surrounds California's roots and goes back to biblical days. However, these delicious fruits have to be cured prior to eating.

If you have ever tasted an olive right off the tree you know the intense bitter flavors will coat your palate for hours.  For many families around the globe curing olives at home as a family is still a time honored tradition (often a multigenerational annual event), but it's not something that gets shared with mainstream America all that often. On September 18th, 2010, Chaffin Family Orchards will be hosting an Olive Curing Demonstration.

Nebraska-based Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) had employees of a Chinese state agency inspect the state controlled-farms.

Organic food from China, including frozen vegetables, edemame soybeans, ginger, and tea, have found their way into supermarkets including Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.  The packages often sport the "U.S.D.A. Organic" seal, but concern and even outrage over Chinese goods in recent years-from tainted pet food to lead paint-has prompted more retailers, including Whole Foods, to reduce the number of organic products coming from China.

Researchers tracked the pesticides' breakdown products in kids' urine and found those with high levels were almost twice as likely to develop ADHD as those with undetectable levels.

The findings are based on data from the general U.S. population, meaning that exposure to the pesticides could be harmful even at levels commonly found in children's environment. Organophosphates were originally developed for chemical warfare, and they are known to be toxic to the nervous system.

Yesterday Whole Foods called the nation's raw milk providers to inform us that as of today, Saturday March 13 at 8 am, they will be removing all raw milk from their shelves. Their actions make it seem like a health emergency, and it is not.

This is not a safety issue. Our wholesome and delicious raw milk is still available at local stores throughout CA. As a very large corporation, Whole Foods must respond to the decisions of their board of directors.
