If you needed any more proof of the (literally) poisonous effects of bauxite mining in Kuantan, here it comes: studies done by the Malaysian Fisheries Department have shown that local fish has been contaminated with heavy metals.

The department's team took samples from 64 specimens belonging to 25 fish species from several rivers, including Sungai Balok, Sg Penggorak, Sg Riau, Sg Mabuk, Sg Padan, Empangan Kobalt, Kuala Penur and Tanjong Lumpur. They then tested the fish for a variety of metals in their systems, including aluminum, iron, magnesium, zinc, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, copper, arsenic and selenium. The levels of contamination the analysis detected were relatively low, according to the department, but it was still at concentrations that was pushing the maximum acceptable levels as specified by the country's Food Act.

Magnesium is one of those supplements that is very well known for its benefits throughout the natural health community. Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical processes in the body.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that magnesium supplementation and correction of deficiency has improved the aforementioned conditions. The problem with this essential mineral is that most people do not have sufficient levels for optimal health. A gradual depletion of nutrients from our soils has left many vegetables with lower levels of magnesium. Another factor that contributes to magnesium deficiency is that it often is depleted by various common conditions (i.e. IBS, Crohn's disease) and medications (i.e. proton pump inhibitors, diuretics).

But what offends ME is that the flu shot was only a pathetic 23% effective in 2014-2015 and the general public will still willingly back up the vaccine.

Even though the facts remain that the flu shot risk carries tremendous risk and injures countless victims, people still back it up and stick out their arms. And even though the flu MIST is a LIVE VIRUS and has the ability to shed and infect others with the flu (For up to 21 days!), people STILL run into the pharmacy and open their nostrils!

Before you can hope to make it as a speculator and start slingin' barrels for big money, you've got to understand exactly what's gushing forth from the earth's crust.

Today's post is actually about edible oils. Well, they're all technically edible - they can all be swallowed and digested - but as for being palatable, let alone healthful? That remains to be seen. Not all oils are created equal, especially given the fact that most of the ones people use nowadays are actually created in an industrial laboratory. No oil "exists naturally," mind you. Olive oil isn't harvested by leaving open containers under leaking, dripping olives on the branch, nor is that liquid sloshing around inside a coconut pure oil. I'm not trying to disparage processing in and of itself.

A bizarre spill of Skittles highway on a rural Wisconsin highway has placed the candy's manufacturer in the uncomfortable position of explaining why its products are finding their way into cattle feed.

The unexpected mishap ended up uncovering that farmers have been feeding candy to their cows for years as a way to cut corners and save money, at the cost to the quality of the beef as well as both cow and human health. Police, in talking to the cattle ranchers, soon learned that Skittles and other sweets are being commonly used in the area in order to "fatten up" cows as they serve as an inexpensive source of carbohydrates. A former farmer in the area told a local CNN affiliate that candy makers and bakeries often sell their rejected or defective candy products to be used as cattle feed, meaning that the problem is larger than just unscrupulous ranchers.

"It is not a question any more: radiation produces cancer, and the evidence is good all the way down to the lowest doses," says the late Dr. John Gofman, Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley.

"As the element is decaying it is throwing off radiation, and the radiation, if it hits the DNA in the nucleolus and the nucleus of a cell, can alter that DNA in ways that can produce things like cancer," Hartmann said. "Now it can also cause simply the cell to die or it can mutate the cell in all kinds of other weird ways, and so it's kind of a numbers game. If you irradiate a million cells... you might get two or three that become cancerous. That's all it takes, right? You've got cancer," Hartmann continued in his video report. "The cesium could cause no cancer, or it could cause cancer in the first cell it irradiates. To say that there is a safe level of radiation is frankly wrong. It's just wrong."

For many Girl Scout troops it is officially cookie season. I feel guilty saying no to the sweet, enthusiastic girls standing outside my grocery store who use their smiles and newly practiced sales pitches to ask how many boxes I'd like to order.

But as a physician who is passionate about health promotion, I politely tell the girls, "No, thanks." I am concerned that every bite and every sale not only delivers an unhealthy snack, but also a dangerous nutrition message. And I'm surprised that more doctors aren't speaking up about this.

This article describes Sonoma County's recent approval of Measure M, banning genetically modified crops from being grown in the County.

Sonoma County voters who helped pass Measure M have made history for the county. Measure M bans genetically modified crops and seeds from being grown in the unincorporated parts of Sonoma County. With the pass of this measure, they are now one of only 6 counties in California to ban genetically modified crops and seeds. This ban comes as no surprise to the county of Sonoma, as it is increasingly aware and ahead of health concerns, our environmental impact, and sustainable living practices.
