Hidden microphones that are part of a clandestine government surveillance program that has been operating around the Bay Area has been exposed.

Imagine standing at a bus stop, talking to your friend and having your conversation recorded without you knowing. It happens all the time, and the FBI doesn't even need a warrant to do it. Federal agents are planting microphones to secretly record conversations.

If you drove by the Allen County Courthouse this afternoon you may have noticed protesters carrying signs. The group is concerned about family courts in Ohio, contending they tear families apart for profit.

Owen contends the courts don't make a profit if they bring two parents together. He says they only make a profit if they can separate. He claims the more children they get in foster care or the family court system... title 4-D of the Social Security system kicks in and they get more than 70% of that total case...not just child support but special programs like parenting classes and anger management and all of the other classes that these courts offer these parents he says the state's making a profit off of it and these parents are required to pay it.

A Maryland judge who ordered a deputy to remotely shock a defendant with a 50,000-volt charge pleaded guilty (PDF) to a misdemeanor civil rights violation in federal court Monday, and he faces a maximum of one year in prison.

Before jurors were brought in, the judge was asking the defendant if he had questions to submit to prospective jurors, who were not yet in the courtroom. Delvon King, the 25-year-old defendant acting as his own attorney, refused to answer several times.

On May 4, a judge in the 250th District Court granted a temporary restraining order preventing the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services from issuing a childcare license to the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas.

These families are fleeing South American countries where they face inhumane conditions at the hands of corrupt governments, organized crime and economic hardships, much of which had been fueled by trade deals like NAFTA.

More than a dozen people are waiting to follow Sandra James' lead in suing a company responsible for drug test results sent to the Department of Social Services that might have been falsified.

"We're not sure how many people this affects," said Laura Saunders, a Laurens attorney working on many of the pending legal cases. "Drug tests came back positive for children, which were absolutely false. It exposes children to being taken out of their homes, some put in foster care." People affected might be facing false accusations of drug use and child abuse, and could lose their jobs or children in the process, she said.

A former employee accused Wells Fargo & Co of instructing workers at a call center to refrain from telling customers about lost deeds or other missing documents, and of firing the worker who called the policy unethical.

Duke Tran, who was a customer service specialist at the bank, says that his supervisor berated him for telling a husband and wife that their loan contract was missing from an internal system. Tran and others later received an email instructing them not to tell customers about situations "where we have a lost contract, deed, any type of document, really, but especially when it relates to securing a property," according to a copy of the email filed with the lawsuit.

The U.S. Department of Education has closed an investigation after more than 16 months into San Diego Unified School District's mishandling of a sexual assault at an elementary school.

According to documents obtained by inewsource through a Freedom of Information Act request, district officials acknowledged not following district policies and federal law while responding to a parent's complaint that his child was sexually assaulted by a student in a school restroom three years ago.

Under state law, a person who fails to report suspected child abuse can be charged with a crime, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. But can that person also be sued for it?...

A Shelbyville doctor accused of not reporting suspected abuse of a child, who was later found dead, argues that, based on legal precedent in Indiana, he is immune to a civil lawsuit. A Marion County judge must soon decide whether that is the case.
