You may recall that during the early days of the uprising in Egypt there was an international outcry when the government cracked down on and blacked out social media networks.

These tools were considered vital to the rebels in both coordinating their activities and getting news, stories and images of the unfolding events out to the rest of the world. But would such a thing happen in more free, westernized climes? Apparently there are at least a couple of leaders in Great Britain who are considering a similar move, and Emma Barnett of The Telegraph thinks it's a terrible idea.

Close your eyes. Picture this. It's 1999. There's an event for something significant and then-candidate George W. Bush is attending along with a few members of the KKK. Bush & the KKK members are together behind the podium.

The first speaker is a KKK leader, then some others, and finally Bush. Also, the KKK arrived there to make it known they endorse George Bush. A photo shows the KKK and George Bush appearing to leave the event together. Now imagine it's 2003 and the photos have been made public. Do you think an organization like Media Matters For America would give George Bush the benefit of the doubt? Do you think The New York Times or the evening news would brush it aside? If this was any GOP politician do you think this would be ignored? Absolutely not! But of course MMFA immediately jumps to President Obama's defense and makes every excuse for him. So far we haven't heard anything from the MSM about the photos published at Big Government showing candidate Obama with the New Black Panther hate group.

Perhaps no other current issue has such potential.

In his State of the Union address, President Obama doubled down on his gun-control proposals, again demanding that Congress ban so-called "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines." This is not a surprise. What has been a surprise are the increasingly open calls for defiance from gun owners, state legislatures, and local law enforcement. If the president's proposals become law, he may move the country into turbulent waters we haven't seen in many years.

It wasn't that long ago that George W. Bush was president. Perhaps you remember him: he's the president whom the mainstream media (MSM) blamed for...

...making up reasons to go to war in Iraq, for giving tax cuts to the rich, for being too dumb to be president, for making America look bad on the international stage, and for sacrificing the planet at the feet of big, bad oil companies. For the eight years Bush was in office it was a fact of life that anchors like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann could barely go a broadcast minute without bashing him. And the whole of the MSM couldn't keep from telling us how deceptive and criminal the Bush/Cheney White House was.

Are the days of flogging back? A Montana state lawmaker wants criminals to be given a choice: Serve jail time, or accept corporal punishment instead.

State Rep. Jerry O'Neil, a Republican, wants that option for all misdemeanor and felony convictions in Montana. The exact type of corporal punishment isn't spelled out in the bill. But what it does say is that corporal punishment will be "the infliction of physical pain on a defendant to carry out the sentence negotiated between the judge and the defendant." Would you choose such an option?

Regardless of your political views or affiliations, recognizing oppressive violence transcends party lines.

The militarization of police affects everyone. Liberals, conservatives, tea partiers, libertarians, socialists, and anarchists agree....the police state is here. With tens of thousands of SWAT raids a year, it is only a matter of time before it's your son, your daughter, your mother or your father, that is victimized by the leviathan that is Police State USA.

ABC had this story this morning but they hadn't quite nailed down the fact that the double agent who infiltrated AQ was in fact the "bomber" himself.

It was strongly implied - ABC's sources noted that the infiltrator had "control" of the bomb - but it falls to the L.A. Times to connect the last dot. An enormous intel coup, needless to say...

Because why admit defeat, cut their (our!) losses, and quit trying to pick economic winners and losers when you can keep whining like a little girl and burning through other people's money like there's no tomorrow?

This week, the House GOP unveiled new draft legislation - the aptly-named No More Solyndras Act - which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. The bill would phase out the Department of Energy's loan guarantee program for clean energy companies, which was expanded through the 2009 stimulus. The Obama DOE has since accumulated an impressive rap sheet of green business ventures that have either gone south or gone completely bankrupt...

You didn't seriously think he was going to abide by the will of Congress, did you?

Such is The One's personal awesomeness that he can order the bombing of Libya without so much as a heads up to the legislature in advance. Surely he wasn't about to be tripped up by a duly enacted bill that dares to cut off the money he uses for his auxiliary cabinet.
