A Mount Vernon accountant with ties to the "sovereign citizen" movement has admitted to bilking the IRS out of more than $2 million by filing false tax returns.

Pleading guilty in U.S. District Court earlier this month, Timothy Garrison admitted to filing dozens of falsified tax returns on behalf of clients in his tax preparation firm. Garrison - purportedly the treasurer of a radical anti-government group recently targeted by federal investigators - pleaded guilty to two counts related to the tax fraud.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was asked Monday if Democrats will move a carbon tax bill after the midterm election. "I sure hope so," he told a "clean energy" conference call.

The reporter asked Reid what would change after the midterm to put carbon tax legislation back on the table: "Well, I think what's happening in the world," Reid replied. "I mean we have -- as we speak, we have wildfires raging in five or six different states in the west. I mean raging. "I heard in a briefing I had this morning, a big fire in Washington is zero percent contained -- zero. You can see the fires burning in the west from satellites miles above the sky. It's -- so there are lots of reasons why we need to take another look at this."

The tax increases scheduled to take effect in January 2013 - dubbed Taxmageddon - could have the American people spending more days than ever working to pay for federal and state government, a report from the Tax Foundation shows.

A host of tax rates are scheduled to rise in January 2013 - when George W. Bush-era tax rates and the annual patch for the Alternative Minimum Tax expire - leading to a tax increase of approximately $500 billion in 2013, according to the conservative Heritage Foundation. The Congressional Budget Office reported in January that taxes would increase by $4.6 trillion over ten years, if Congress allows the rates to rise as scheduled at the end of this year.

The Obama reelection team has publicly accused eight private citizens who donated to the Mitt Romney campaign of "betting against America" and of having "less-than-reputable" records.

Apparently, making an example out of two GOP members of Congress wasn't enough for President Obama; he has moved on to bigger game. "This past week, one of [the president's] campaign websites posted an item entitled 'Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney's donors,'" Kimberly A. Strassel writes in the Wall Street Journal...

Arkansas sheriff's deputies tied a man to chair for eight hours and beat him "until his teeth were knocked from his mouth" - after a traffic ticket, the man claims in court.

Anthony Westbrook sued Saline County, its Sheriff Bruce Pennington and Deputy Calvin Reed, in Saline County Court. He claims the defendants "have created an atmosphere of terror and torture at the [Saline County Detention] Center". Westbrook, who also sued five Jane Doe deputies, claims he was beaten and unconstitutionally restrained for 10 hours after his arrest and medical treatment. He claims the Doe deputies at the Saline County Detention Center not only watched the beating but refused to intervene and "conspired between themselves" to destroy video evidence.

Did you see Tuesday's second Presidential debate? It was like a heavyweight championship rematch. And Romney sealed the deal with another knockout performance.

But this time it wasn't Obama's fault. He came ready to rumble. This time it was that damn record that got in Obama's way. Remember the O.J. Simpson case? This time the glove fit. Let me explain. No one has EVER been able to go into the ring with Obama - the heavyweight talker - and "take it to him." Knock him out. Leave him reeling. Leave him shaking and breathless from body blows. Until Mitt Romney. Not just because Mitt is the smartest guy in the room - and he is. But because Obama has never in his career had to run on an actual record.

As John Nolte pointed out, Connor [sic?] Friedersdorf, Atlantic's resident conservative who spends most of his time trashing conservatives, set out to investigate how audiences are responding to the new Sarah Palin documentary "The Undefeated".

Curiously, he chose to go to a midnight showing in Orange County, CA at the precise moment of the long-anticipated premiere of the final "Harry Potter" film. I planned on doing the same thing. I planned on going to the movie theatre in Orange, CA (AMC 30 at The Block) and report back to the Big Hollywood readers how Palin was being accepted in the county that Ronald Reagan described as "where good Republicans go to die." Now Coner [sic?] is a real journalist, as he often reminds us. And I'm just a Breitbart blogger, so what do I know, but it seemed to me that the best time to go check out the audience reaction was during the DAY of the release, not at the midnight showing last night.
