Big Journalism

Last week The Huffington Post published Larry Doyle's "satire" article "The Jesus-Eating Cult of Rick Santorum." It's a disgusting piece of bigotry that's disguised as satire.

I think Mr. Doyle should leave The Simpsons" and work on "South Park" where they perfectly nail satire every single week. I even enjoy their satire episodes on the Catholic Church. The best part about "South Park" though, is they are consistent and will go after everyone. No one is sacred.

Hurricane Isaac interfered with the Republican National Convention and resulted in a storm of tweets from liberals. Entertainers from "tolerant" Hollywood unleashed hateful messages aimed at those in Tampa, Fla., the site of the RNC.

Actress Ellen Barkin retweeted a message from one of her followers saying: "C'mon #Isaac! Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean! #RNC." Samuel L. Jackson also got in on the action, tweeting that it was unfair that Hurricane Isaac missed the Republican convention, saying he didn't understand God's plan.

This is what democracy astroturf looks like.

That's Michelle Fields with the mic; the last time she tried to interview Occupiers in D.C., she was harassed so aggressively that she vowed never to bother with them again. The real smoking gun that these guys aren't part of the movement, I think, is that they're simply far too civil to be true believers.

"We have put in place the toughest ethics laws and toughest transparency rules of any administration in history" - Barack Obama

Protecting the environment for some reason seems to necessitate maintaining a complex web of email accounts and aliases. Former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson - if that's her real name - had already admitted to using the pseudonym "Richard Windsor" on a separate government email account that she used in addition to her own. It's now been discovered that Jackson-Windsor also used a third email account for department business, this one not even connected in any way to the EPA...

Even expert storm chases would have struggled to decipher the difference between the tornado warnings sent last May before severe weather hit Joplin and, a few days later, headed again toward downtown Kansas City.

The first tornado was a massive EF-5 twister that killed 161 people as it wiped out a huge chunk of the southwest Missouri community. The second storm caused only minor damage when two weak tornadoes struck in the Kansas City suburbs. In both cases, the warnings were harbingers of touchdowns. But three out of every four times the National Weather Service issues a formal tornado warning, there isn't one.

Adam Hasner @AdamHasner I'm speechless RT @Jeff_Jacoby: Would you sign a petition to legalize 4th trimester abortions? These students would http://bit.ly/19kNKAF

Some people will sign anything, and the latest evidence of that comes by way of the Media Research Center: Once again, MRCTV's Dan Joseph went to a college campus and asked students to sign a petition. This time the goal was to get people to show their support for legalizing 4th trimester abortion. For those of you who failed biology, babies are born at the END of the 3rd trimester.

Edward Snowden's revelations of NSA surveillance programs prove that the US has abandoned the rule of law, betraying its own constitution, whistleblower Thomas Andrews Drake, told RT.

A group of US whistleblowers and activists has present Snowden with a Sam Adams Award for 'Integrity in Intelligence' in Moscow on Wednesday. "The irony is that the US has abandoned the rule of law," Drake, who also revealed NSA secrets in the past, said of Snowden's leaks. "They've unchained itself from their own constitution - the mechanism by which we govern ourselves. And when you ban the real law and use a secret law and secret interpretations of law, we're in a whole new ball game. It's a Pandora's Box."

Illinois gun grabbers are getting creative in their efforts to make one of the most restrictive gun law States even tougher on legal gun owners. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is considering imposing a "violence tax" on guns and ammunition.

The county encompasses Chicago, which has seen murders rise by 25 percent this year, according to recent police statistics. In Illinois, a person must first obtain a State permit to buy a firearm. The State is the only one in the Nation that does not allow concealed carry in some form. Preckwinkle's Chief of Staff Kurt Summers cited a report issued last summer showing that nearly one-third of the guns recovered on Chicago's streets were purchased in suburban gun shops. He did not say how many of those guns found on the street were stolen from the lawful owners. Odds are it's most of them. He also failed to mention a Chicago Police Department study that showed that 88 percent of all murderers and 76 percent of all murder victims had prior criminal records, which indicates the city's recidivism rate is extremely high.

One of the ways in which President Obama was able to win states such as North Carolina and Indiana in 2008, was through an unprecedented turnout among blacks, who were obviously and understandably inspired to vote for America's first black president.

But today, with his approval ratings stubbornly stuck at 47 to 48%, Obama knows he's going to need a similar explosion of black support if he's going to have any chance at all for a second term. But when you're a failed president whose only impact on black Americans has been to increase their unemployment rate and side against them on the issue of same-sex marriage, this is not a group Obama's going to be able to inspire as easily. So, as we've seen for months now and during the last two nights of the Charlotte convention, Obama is running a base campaign, a "devil you know" campaign that says, "If I can't get you to come out and vote for me, I can damn well get you to vote against the other guy."
