Plan for new vaccine for babies

The Department of Health is considering introducing a new jab to protect babies against bacterial meningitis, septicaemia and pneumonia.

Babies already receive two jabs containing six vaccinations by the age of four months. Officials have agreed to the new vaccine in principle - but will consult parents before taking a final decision. In the wake of the controversy over MMR, they want to ensure a new vaccine has public support.

ch. Sgt. Lavester Brown almost died last year when his heart swelled to twice normal size hours after he received an anthrax vaccination.

A few months later, he had to have a heart transplant. Brown said he believes the shot caused his heart problem and that adverse reactions to the anthrax vaccination are more common in blacks.

The rate of polio infection in children more than doubled in 2003 despite official assurances that they are addressing the problem

Despite a growing polio epidemic in Africa, health ministers from the most seriously affected countries say they can stop its spread by the end of this year by intensifying efforts to immunize tens of millions of children. At a meeting of the WHO in Geneva on Thursday, the ministers said they expected to repeat the success of large-scale immunization programs that nearly eliminated polio from Africa by 2003.

But last year, the number of African children paralyzed by polio more than doubled, to 1,037 from 447 in 2003, as the virus began spreading again in five countries that had been free of polio: Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Ivory Coast and Sudan. Three other countries -- Egypt, Niger and Nigeria -- have never stopped transmission of polio. The disease now threatens countries on the Horn of Africa, Congo and the Arabian Peninsula, said Dr. David Heymann, the official in charge of the WHO's polio eradication program. A year ago, polio transmission was confined to Egypt, Niger and Nigeria. "The resurgence of polio in Africa is costing an extra US$150 million for the immunization programs." -- David Heymann,WHO

NIAID Begins Enrolling Volunteers for Novel HIV Vaccine Study

A large clinical trial of a novel HIV vaccine has begun enrolling volunteers at sites in North America, South America, the Caribbean and Australia. Organizers are seeking 1,500 participants.

The trial is co-funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. Inc. Merck developed the experimental vaccine to stimulate HIV-specific cellular immunity, which prompts the body to produce T cells that kill HIV-infected cells. In previous smaller trials, this vaccine was found to be safe and to induce cellular immune responses against HIV in more than half of volunteers.

“This new study is the first time we have used such a large sample of people to test whether a vaccine that stimulates cellular immunity alone either blocks HIV infection, decreases the level of HIV early in infection or both,” says Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., director of NIAID.

Cases of mumps continue to soar

Outbreaks of mumps are soaring in England and Wales, with a total of 15,754 notified cases in the first 10 weeks of the year compared with an annual total of 16,436 notifications for all of 2004.

Universities set up vaccination sessions and many asked students who caught mumps to go home until they were no longer infectious. Others asked students to seek vaccination before starting term.

Britain in grip of mumps epidemic after missed jabs

Britain is in the grip of a mumps epidemic, health professionals warned yesterday, as figures showed an 18-fold increase in the number of reported cases.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 28,470 cases were notified in the first four months of the year, almost all of which were expected to be confirmed as true cases of mumps.

When a study revealed that mercury in childhood vaccines may have caused autism in thousands of kids, the government rushed to conceal the data and to prevent parents from suing drug companies for their role in the epidemic.

In June 2000, a group of top government scientists and health officials gathered for a meeting at the isolated Simpsonwood conference center in Norcross, Ga. Convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the meeting was held at this Methodist retreat center, nestled in wooded farmland next to the Chattahoochee River, to ensure complete secrecy. The agency had issued no public announcement of the session -- only private invitations to 52 attendees.

There were high-level officials from the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, the top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization in Geneva, and representatives of every major vaccine manufacturer, including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth and Aventis Pasteur. All of the scientific data under discussion, CDC officials repeatedly reminded the participants, was strictly "embargoed." There would be no making photocopies of documents, no taking papers with them when they left.

Autism - Cut The Crap

Officials within the FDA and CDC, are always claiming that researchers and scientists who conduct studies, not funded by drug companies or the government, are making unfounded claims about a link between thimerosal-laced vaccines and autism.

I say cut the crap.

Think about it. Why would so many highly respected scientists, researchers and physicians go to such great lengths to concoct bogus studies and issue false reports, in essence putting their professional reputations on the line, if their was no connection'

I want these officials to do two things. First I want them to give me one good reason why these professionals would make this up, and two, I want them to give me one logical alternative theory for the current epidemic of disorders.
