Whooping Cough Strikes Vaccinated Children Too

Canterbury children who have been vaccinated against whooping cough are still catching the disease, a childcare manager says.

Latest figures show the pertussis, or whooping cough, outbreak in Canterbury is still in full swing, with the region having the highest number of cases in the country in the past two weeks. There have been 1258 pertussis notifications reported throughout the country this year, compared with 198 for the same time last year. The lower North Island and the South Island are taking the brunt of the outbreak.

During a whooping cough outbreak in California in 2010, immunized children between eight and 12 years old were more likely to catch the bacterial disease than kids of other ages, suggesting that the childhood vaccine wears off as kids get older.

"We have a real belief that the durability (of the vaccine) is not what was imagined," said Dr. David Witt, an infectious disease specialist at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Rafael, California, and senior author of the study. Whooping cough, or pertussis, is caused by Bordetella pertussis bacteria. The infection produces an intense cough that lasts weeks and can lead to pneumonia, an inability to breathe or death -- although most cases don't reach such extremes.

Children fully inoculated against whooping cough become more susceptible to the disease as the vaccination wanes over time, contributing to outbreaks in the U.S., a study found.

Each year after receiving the fifth dose of the vaccine, children had a 42 percent increased risk of acquiring whooping cough, also known as pertussis, according to research in the New England Journal of Medicine. The vaccine, known as DTaP, which also inoculates against diphtheria and tetanus, is sold in the U.S. by GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK) and Sanofi.

We don't tolerate bullying in schools on the false belief that a few scuffles can build character. We don't tolerate smoking on playgrounds because parents should have the right to determine the tobacco habits of their second-graders.

CNN: U.S. measles cases in 2013 may be most in 17 years...and wait for it..."people who refuse to vaccinate their children are behind the increasing number of outbreaks, health officials say"

Of course! It is ALWAYS the unvaccinated. And the answer is always MORE vaccines. Scientists believe that measles can be eradicated by vaccinating 80% -100% of the population. Theoretically, such "herd" immunity will interrupt measles transmission and end epidemics. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that "immunization coverage of 2 year olds of 80% may be sufficient to prevent sustained measles outbreaks in urban communities". This is what is referred to as "herd immunity". Ok, so are you following? We need about 80% of people (children) to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity and prevent outbreaks. Just yesterday (published September 12, 2013) The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said childhood immunization levels are near or above national targets. Let me repeat: CHILDHOOD immunization levels are near or ABOVE National targets.

I've been asked this many times. It's an understandable question, coming from those who are shocked to learn that people even consider bucking the medical system and their infamous childhood vaccine schedule.

To some, I may seem like some sort of modern day renegade; some kind of rogue in a vast wilderness of pharmaceutical influence. I suppose I am different, although I don't feel that way most of the time. What may set me(and millions of others) apart is how I reached this decision. There is not one sole reason that I've stopped vaccinating my kids; there are many reasons. I've been researching this topic in depth for quite a while now(spurred on by an adverse reaction my second child had to her twelve month round of shots), and I've come to the eye opening realization that the rabbit hole is much deeper than most people realize. I have many reasons for not trusting common vaccine science, but there are ten reasons that I feel compelled to specifically address whenever the topic comes up.

We strongly believe in exercising your right to NOT give your doctor an anti-vaccine liability form.

Every so often, information circulates around the alternative vaccine community recommending that parents take a form to their child's pediatrician and ask the doctor to sign it, to prevent their children from being vaccinated and to educate the doctor about vaccines. Typically, these forms list vaccine ingredients and ask the doctor to assume liability for any adverse events that the vaccines the doctor administers may cause. The theory seems to be that this will enlighten the doctor as to the truth about vaccines and prevent the children from being vaccinated. While the idea of using these forms is very appealing to those of us in the alternative vaccine community, they are also a potential disaster waiting to happen, for the reasons stated below...
