Medical Health News

We have some real problems and they are only going to get worse. We have a right to know what we are eating. People are getting allergies, this isn't normal folks. If we don't pay attention to what's happening, in our food supply, to our farmers, the plants, and ultimately our grocery store we are going to wake up one day and realize we trusted the health of our children and the health of our families to the government. And the government let us down.

Link is getting a workout.

Unlike the button-mashing pursuits in previous installments of the popular Nintendo Co. franchise, "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" is asking players to flick their wrists, wave their arms and move their hands with the gesture-recognizing Wii controller in order to guide spritely adventurer Link along an epic quest to find childhood sweetheart Zelda.

It's a proposal that will be welcomed by some and labelled outrageous by others, but a health expert from the University of Sydney says a 'smoker's licence' could save lives.

It's a radical proposal that will be welcomed warmly by some and labelled outrageous by others - introducing a 'smoker's licence' to help reduce the damaging effects of tobacco. The unusual suggestion was made by Professor Simon Chapman from the University of Sydney in Australia in this week's PLOS Medicine. Users would have to apply and pay for a mandatory licence in the form of a smartcard that would be shown when buying cigarettes. Dr Chapman said this could discourage teenagers from picking up the habit.

It took Richmond health food manufacturer John Roulac, the founder of Nutiva, a few years to realize that when it comes to winning the war to legalize growing cannabis in this country, market development was more important than lobbying the government.

He's turned hemp seeds, among other ingredients, into a $70 million-a-year business. People aren't buying them for their psychoactive powers - Roulac says they don't have any - but rather as what is called a super food. But he has to source them in Canada, because growing industrial hemp in the United States is illegal.

Researchers at McGill University, Canada, found that they could activate ancient genes present in ant larvae by dabbing them with hormones - and turn them into huge killing machines.

Supersoldier ants can occur naturally in the wild, but only rarely. In the deserts of America and Mexico, their job is to protect the colony from raids by invading army ants. The supersoldiers use their enormous heads to block the nest entrance and attack any enemy ants that get too close.

The tax increases scheduled to take effect in January 2013 - dubbed Taxmageddon - could have the American people spending more days than ever working to pay for federal and state government, a report from the Tax Foundation shows.

A host of tax rates are scheduled to rise in January 2013 - when George W. Bush-era tax rates and the annual patch for the Alternative Minimum Tax expire - leading to a tax increase of approximately $500 billion in 2013, according to the conservative Heritage Foundation. The Congressional Budget Office reported in January that taxes would increase by $4.6 trillion over ten years, if Congress allows the rates to rise as scheduled at the end of this year.

Arkansas sheriff's deputies tied a man to chair for eight hours and beat him "until his teeth were knocked from his mouth" - after a traffic ticket, the man claims in court.

Anthony Westbrook sued Saline County, its Sheriff Bruce Pennington and Deputy Calvin Reed, in Saline County Court. He claims the defendants "have created an atmosphere of terror and torture at the [Saline County Detention] Center". Westbrook, who also sued five Jane Doe deputies, claims he was beaten and unconstitutionally restrained for 10 hours after his arrest and medical treatment. He claims the Doe deputies at the Saline County Detention Center not only watched the beating but refused to intervene and "conspired between themselves" to destroy video evidence.

Did you see Tuesday's second Presidential debate? It was like a heavyweight championship rematch. And Romney sealed the deal with another knockout performance.

But this time it wasn't Obama's fault. He came ready to rumble. This time it was that damn record that got in Obama's way. Remember the O.J. Simpson case? This time the glove fit. Let me explain. No one has EVER been able to go into the ring with Obama - the heavyweight talker - and "take it to him." Knock him out. Leave him reeling. Leave him shaking and breathless from body blows. Until Mitt Romney. Not just because Mitt is the smartest guy in the room - and he is. But because Obama has never in his career had to run on an actual record.

Judge Napolitano weighed in on the White House's "nudge squad" this morning on Fox and Friends. The team of government experts will encourage you to do things like pay your back taxes, save more money, eat better, and exercise more.

The idea actually cracked Judge Napolitano up. "I'm laughing cause what will they think of next?! The government can't deliver the mail and they want to tell us to fix the broken screens in our house and clean our attics and change the oil in our cars? These are not functions of government." "If the Constitution protects anything ... it protects the right to be different. We don't need the government in our faces telling us how to live," Napolitano said.

If you aren't creeped out by the No Birth Control Left Behind rhetoric of the White House and Planned Parenthood, you aren't listening closely enough. The anesthetic of progressive benevolence always dulls the senses. Wake up.

When a bunch of wealthy white women and elite Washington bureaucrats defend the trampling of religious liberties in the name of "increased access" to "reproductive services" for "poor" women, the ghost of Margaret Sanger is cackling. As she wrote in her autobiography, Sanger founded Planned Parenthood in 1916 "to stop the multiplication of the unfit." This, she boasted, would be "the most important and greatest step towards race betterment."

Last week The Huffington Post published Larry Doyle's "satire" article "The Jesus-Eating Cult of Rick Santorum." It's a disgusting piece of bigotry that's disguised as satire.

I think Mr. Doyle should leave The Simpsons" and work on "South Park" where they perfectly nail satire every single week. I even enjoy their satire episodes on the Catholic Church. The best part about "South Park" though, is they are consistent and will go after everyone. No one is sacred.
